Normally you should always have an axis. To produce a grid without
'grid' ('cax.grid=[1 1]', see 'axes_properties', 'grid' in the help
pages) you can use
x=0:10; y=-5:5;
[X,Y]=ndgrid(x,y);
xdel();
plot(X,Y)
plot(X',Y')
