My apologies for stating the obvious (if you are using a Mac), but if you have
been using Time Machine you should be able to recover your lost files there,
because TM is a backup app that also functions as an archive. Just go back to
the last date before you lost the documents, i.e. select 'Ent

The folder(s) are not in openoffice, they are on you computer's hard drive. On
my computer it is a folder called "Documents" then in various subfolders in
that folder.
Please share with us what operating system you are using so that we can provide
more specific help.
