Okay, I was assuming your vm already has IP configured. How did you install the vm? Did you clone it from a template? One way to provide IP Configuration for VMs is Cloud-Init which you can use via GUI (Run Once Mode-Initial Run Select Cloud-Init - Fill in network configuration) or via API/SDK.
