Hi

I'm looking for somewhere better to host a wiki presently at
littlebird.wikidot.com (curse their commercial aspirations).

It's a free, community based scheme for promoting local folk and traditional
music and arts events in the area. Normal access is through the domain
littlebirdtoldme.info to disconnect it from hosting changes.

The reason for using Wiki is that we hope to open editing to a large
collection of people to reduce the staleness that usually accompanies such
projects.

My user ID is JoeSkaife

Ideally the server name would be littlebirdtoldme or littlebird if you have
a name length limit.

If any of you wiki-wise users or admins have a better suggestion, I'd
welcome some new perspectives.

Dear list,

I have seen on the site that it'd be possible to get a free hosting or
xwiki.
I am doing an e-learning program in a French University and having a wiki
for project sharing within the school groups i'll be working with would be
perfect.
I unfortunately don't know of any specific hosting for xwiki other than this
one (or any wiki for that matter, and I have to say, I have been seduced by
the richness of xwiki). Moreover, I don't think I would be able to run a
computer permanently to have the wiki running days & nights - my computer
performance would not allow it.
I have found affordable java hosting, but then I have no clue on how to
install xwiki on an ftp or even if that's possible at all.

Please let me know if my request is realistic enough to be eligible for free
xwiki hosting.

I'm an IT-consultant implementing several wiki installations at
customers (confluence, mediawiki, dokuwiki and even Tiddly...) and

At first sight, it looks promising, but i'd like to get in touch
without having to initially install it myself.

I'd like to create a wiki at myxwiki.org. It will be used for
debating certain strange decisions in local government, and
for collecting and organizing information about the background
to these decisions, and discussing what can be done about them.

Should I give some more background? At a place in our city
that is now fabulously beautiful they intend to erect horribly
ugly buildings that will block a breathtaking view over lake
and islands. A charming waterfront will be converted into an
ugly mess. We need to explore why they're making such strange
decisions, and try to get them to change them.

This happens in Sweden, so the wiki will be in Swedish. You
can see a half-finished version at http://slussen.wikispaces.com
(prettiest in Firefox >= 3.5). I started to build my wiki there,
but then found that Wikispaces is not ideal for this particular
kind of wiki (although it's great for many other kinds). It looks
like myxwiki is better for this.

My name is Nick Doolittle and I am a social worker with VNA Hospice Care
based in Woburn, MA.  I'm interested in creating a wiki for our
non-profit company- perhaps to be shared at least in part with other
similar elder service agencies in the area- to share an array of
information regarding our services in the Boston area.  This information
will be shared with other social workers, nurses, and clinical managers
within our company.  Some information, such as company policy, might be
kept restricted to specific users within our agency (if such a feature
is possible within XWiki).

 

It would be of great help to utilize XWiki to host this wiki.  My XWiki
username (freshly created) is ndoolittle.  As far as a server address
goes, something along the lines of "hospice" or "vnahc" would be ideal.

I'dl like to have a myxwiki opened.
What for : it's been a while i try to foster (my 2 cents) the use of wikis, 
and today mainly through the Explorateursduweb'collective's actions, that 
consist into explaining potential users, the advantages of some of the web 
tools and technologies (basically it's all about trying to explain things in 
a plain language). With that in mind, i am from time to time led to answer 
that question :"which wiki should or could i use ?". And because i am a 
consciensous guy, i only talk about what i know, so when i 've not had the 
opportunity to play around with a tool/software, i just don't talk about it. 
And i fell it's quite a pitty regarding XWiki, because i) it's a french team 
; ii) it seems to be a nice bunch of people ; and iii) the programmable 
facet of XWiki surely makes it a must... and some people have already asked 
me for that kind of functionnalities... but again i need to play with it 
first, before talking about it.
2nd potential use : for the Explorateursduweb themselves (though not sure at 
all, yet)

I'm involved with a small community of developers and minecraft
players. I think it would be good to have a space to collaborate or
talk about different projects in both our personal developer world and
our minecraft world.

I'm looking to be able to host screenshots, and send automated emails
on wiki updates..

I did setup and try the xwiki application on my own pc, works like a
champ, but my ISP prevents me from hosting any kind of server.

I would like to request a wiki for our project.

I'm writing as an enquiry officer with Suffolk Libraries.

We are currently researching the feasability of maintaining staff handbooks and 
library procedures in the form of a wiki. This would allow us to instantly 
share the handbook with all who need it. It would also facilitate internal and 
public discussion of the way we run our libraries and what are the best ways to 
deal with issues as they come up.

We also feel there is scope for fostering co-operation between public libraries 
in general through this project - again by facilitating debate and the sharing 
of technical know-how.

We are attracted to xwiki because of its LGPL license and would be very 
interested in running our wiki on your servers for the duration of this pilot.

My username is AlexSassmannshausen. The server name we are hoping for is either 
sls.myxwiki.org or suffolklibs.myxwiki.org (depending on whether the first is 
already taken).

Please let me know if you have any further questions or requirements prior to 
creating the wiki for us.
