[vchkpw] valias questions....

2004-08-20 Thread shadowplay.net
issue two...

the system does not forward mail to
multiple recipients of
an alias listed in the valias table...

eg...
table data of ...

somealias domain.com./Maildir
somealias domain.com [EMAIL PROTECTED]
somealias domain.com[EMAIL PROTECTED]

most notably it never arrives in the ./Maildir
no errors are reported

this is the equivelent of a multi line
.qmail-somealias file

with the contents of ...
./Maildir
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

how would one go about adding a valias record that
accomidates delivery to the popaccount
and forwarding to other acounts

[vchkpw] quotawarn....

2004-08-20 Thread shadowplay.net

hey all...
I have been tracking a few issues that are slightly anoying and
causing me great concern when running vpopmail on a production site.

vpopmail 5.4.5 (I know 5.4.6 is more current however ...
the sql injection is the least of my wories at this time!)

netqmail-1.0.5
Maildir++ patches applied.
qmail-pop3d
mysql

clean builds and
all applicable patches applied.

we are using Maildir as the delivery method of choice.

issue one...

clearing a quotawarn message.

the systems fail to clear a quotawarn message for users
who pop in and remove mail (once they are over quota).
in addition there does not appear to be a method to
force a recalculation of the maildirsize without deleting
it entirly.

the 15min expirey and recalculation of maildir does not appear
to be occuring
or
if it is it fails to remove the quotawarn message.

below is a maildirsize for an account in question...

 tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:110 0.0.0.0:*

And as far as I know I am running Courier-IMAP for IMAP and
 qmail-popup for POP ...

nope sorry... looks like your running courier as your pop client
or atleast that's the one that currently has the port...

I would configure courier to not listen to the pop port
and confirm that qmail is configured with /service for
qmail-pop3d running
I'd then stop courier
restart qmail
confirm that it is qmail-pop3d that has control of
port 110 and then restart courier.

[vchkpw] vadddomain irregularities.

2004-08-24 Thread shadowplay.net
hey all...

im running 2 smtp qmail/vpopmail w/mysql servers with a shared via nfs
mail directory (for the domains tree) I am having issues in adding
additional domains

I use ~vpopmail/bin/vadddomain to add the domain on the primary box.
all qmail control files and the users files are all updated and the
domain directory is created.

I can then add users etc... with no issues.

when I head over to the secondary box.. and do a vadddomain
I receive the following error.

Error. Failed while attempting to add domain to auth backend
 Error: no auth connection

a vuserinfo of a user in the original domain from the secondary box
makes no complaint at all

in addition the ENTIRE domain directory that I just added and all users...
is unlinked in the process... poof gone vanished...
can someone explain the reasons for this?

im assuming at this time that the best work arround is a manual
modification of the qmail control files and the users files
and then a qmailctl restart... however im curious as to why
vadddomain would unlink a directory structure
that was already in place...AND complain of no auth
access the the db its been running off for the last month?
but in the next shell command give me full userinfo pulled from
the same database.

Simscan devel version 1.0.3 is available.

 See:
 http://www.inter7.com/?page=simscan

It would be great if anyone could test it or review the code.
It works on our RedHat 9 machine.

 Changes
 1. spamassassin scanning now passes along all the
 spamassassin modified email.

 2. spamassassin rejection uses the X-Spam-Flag: Yes header to
determine if an email should be rejected instead of using
 spamc with the -c option.

 3. New --enable-spam-hits=hit_number option allows you to
reject based on the calculated hits value instead of the
 X-Spam-Flag: Yes header.

 4. New --enable-per-domain option allows you to enable clamav
scanning or spamassassin scanning on a per domain basis.
Includes new simscanmk program to create the contant database
files (.cdb) used to determine which domains to enable spam
 or virus checking for.

 5. simscan now runs setuid as the simscan user for security.

 6. Updated documentation.

also are you compiling the uid of the simscan
user into the code like they do with other
vpopmail aps?

kind of makes it not portable as a compiled app
from a dev to a prod box unless the uid/gid of sinscan
matches across the boxes

Maybe there should be an option to pick which user to run
simscan as. The default would be simscan, which seems to work
if the smtp server runs as root. But if it runs as a
different user it might not be able to
kick off a setuid simscan process. I'll look into it.

RE: [vchkpw] Fields' use?

2004-11-19 Thread shadowplay.net

um.. the uid and gid are used on a unix file systems to identify
permission levels of access to files and directories.
they allow an administrator to compartementalize
access on a *nix box.
they are closely tied with the applications
chmod chown and chgrp.

pw_uid is == uid from the /etc/passwd file
same with pw_gid

they were probably not identified in documentation
because they are pretty evident if you came from
an *nix file system admin background

they do have the added benefit of being used
as a reference for the functionality that
dave pointed out.

does
this change take into account the ablity for multi processing on the maildirsize

think
multiple mailservers with a nfs connection to the maildirectories...

ie at
this time if i accept a mail its added to quota..
then
while im writing my mail in a second vdeliver needs to
write,
looksin quota, reports over, and we bounce..

under
the new structure.. will this occur or will BOTH files get

  I found one immediate
problem. vdelivermail was adding an email's size to the maildirsize file

maildirsize file would end up out of whack.

RE: [vchkpw] OT: Migration of Lotus Notes to Vpopmail

2005-02-19 Thread shadowplay.net

um fetchmail is your friend
if you know the username/password of your
lotus clients (or can take the lotus server and globaly
reset the passwords to something you know... )

when run as root fetchmail has MANY neat options...
you can set it up so that each new user account pops(or imaps) into the
lotus notes server,
grabs all the mail in the mail boxes, and restreams all messages to the
new qmail smtp server... for delivery of the mailbox on the new mailserver

vola in your new mailservers inbox will be all the emails
works great... especially if you're migrating a
large amount of clients

we did this for a client last summer
that had to move 20k clients from
an old ISP server to a new inhouse server...

took 6 hours (ok we had a PHAT pipe)

we did it without requireing any administrative access
to the original server.

now there are a few stumbling blocks ..
it helps if you know all the imap folders that people have sorted
their mail into etc etc. or better yet tell the users to move any
mail they want to save to somedir by migration date...

it also helps if you don’t accidently destroy source mail
in the process... (make sure you don’t have remove mail
from server after pop set to YES) or you'll never be able to
restart the process if something goes horribly wrong.

it also is a wise idea to run a few tests on
some throw away accounts (ok run LOTS of tests)

when your ready to do it...
block the lotus server from receiving any smtp or pop
traffic except from your target box)
x your fingers and throw the switch...

it also helps if you throw that switch when no project managers,
VPs, presidents, CEOs, CTOs, and administrative personel and other
people who tend to worry, panic, or point out things like
its too simple it cant possibly work are around,

I recommend some time around 2am

I'm looking for a way to disable bouncing (ALL bouncing, not just
double-bounces) temporarily for a group of domains on one our
mail servers that is causing some problems. I'm hoping there
is a way to do this globally (as in NOT editing ALL the
domain/.qmail-default files, as there are many). Does
anyone know of any way to do this without going into each
virtual domain and editing the .qmail-default file there?
That would be a lot of work, and especially bad since it
would all need to be undone in a few days anyway.

Any help appreciated. Google is full of answers to people
using non-vpopmail setups, but little info seems to be out
there for vpopmail setups on a large-ish scale.

 Hi,

A new message comes in. The message gets stored on the NFS
server. The time on the pop server is 10 minutes behind the
time on the NFS server, the pop server doesn't see the new
message until 10 minutes is passed because the time stamp on
the new message is 10 minutes in the future.

RE: [vchkpw] POP3 authentication - erratic vmysql auth problem - self solved

2006-10-30 Thread shadowplay.net

On a new linux mailserver I was having an erratic problem
 with mysql and
pop3 authentication. Authentication works 90+% of the time.
However, using The Bat! and Outlook clients, I randomly see the
following authentication failure and the user must poll pop3 again -
 which then succeeds.

 SOLUTION:
In spite of what the qmailctl stat told me, I found that
 increasing the
pop3 'run' file memory limit from 800 to 1200 appears to
 suppress this issue.

Any thoughts on why would be welcome. Otherwise, one for
 the archives... Thanks! Dave.

aside from 'the bat!' being a spamware client filtered by most
mail daemons and spam solutions... on inbound mailservers...
your clients are probably sending/reciving
bigger spam attachments than normal
to longer lists...

u might also want to look at the number of cc's and bcc's those clients
are sending... and if its inbound pop have you looked at the size of the
pop mailboxes that they are attempting to check?

a good hit with 3 or 4 heavy emails will blow 8m pretty easy...
remmember the mem limit is the size of the pop binaries \PLUS
the mailbox size

 Hi,

It seems that there's a limit in quota at 2GB. What are the options
available to have mail accounts with more than 4 GB quota?

 Thx,
 Iulian

are u running mailbox or maildir?
u might have hit a file system
2gb file size limit if you are running mailbox.

RE: [vchkpw] smtp auth failed when no email to be retrieved

2007-01-28 Thread shadowplay.net

well um
doesn't look like neone actually
hit any thing that would give them a
connection because your clients ip never appeared
in a pop b4 smtp connection.

your error message, and log extract as listed
does not show a pop connection cleanring the tcpserver
to clear the ip as an allowed relay.

so your qmail acted normaily and denied a relay status for
the originating connecting ip.

Subject: [vchkpw] Qmail with Simscan, SA and ClamAv

I have also posted this to vchkpw list:

I have a server with qmail running some 600 email accounts over some
30 domains. I recently installed simscan, Spamassassin and ClamAv.
It all works really well, but during peak hours (say 300 to 500k per
sec inbound traffic) Thee server starts to bog down and
 progressively
gets slower and slower until 120 connections are maxed out and the
server starts rejecting smtp connections first and then pop
connections. This is a new AMD 64 bit with 1Gig Ram running on
Debian and running also Apache with php, mysql, and Horde webmail
(with very very few hits per day). If I turn off simscan, situation
returns to normal after a while. I have tried finding some
documentation about how many users and traffic qmail with
 simscan, SA
and Clam may handle, but it seems there is nothing out there other
than very general stuff like many users, thousands of users

Perhaps the problem is in my setup and some configuration for
simscan, SA or clam that I have set/not set incorrectly, ot I have
not realized this number of users and trafffic is just too much for
one server. Any suggestions or links to appropriate docs will
 be most
 appreciated.

 Thanks!

I can't tell from just looking at the patch how you are setting
valid_domain_path. As long is you are only exposing mail domain

It would be helpful if you included a little blurb on how your patch
