[vchkpw] not existing recipient under high load
Hello I'm a subscriber to a few Yaho groups, and recently have been unsubscribed by them, automatically. When I view my Yahoo bounce history I can see: Last Bounced Message: Remote host said: 511 sorry, no mailbox here by that name (#5.1.1 - chkuser) [RCPT_TO] Now I know that the mailbox is there, as it is my main personal email account that runs through our qmail/vpopmail/chkuser/simscan toaster and so the mailserver returning this message is an obvious error. However, when I search the logs, I do find several bounces for my valid email address, see log below. When I look at our server monitoring for these days, I can see that these erroneous bounces occurred on 19th April when the server was under a high load, due to a targeted spam attack. My question is, has anyone else noticed this as a problem, and also am I correct in the assumption that this is more likely to be a vpopmail error, rather than a problem with simscan or chkuser? @400046235a3e309d4a24 CHKUSER rejected rcpt: from [EMAIL PROTECTED]:: remote :nine.mx.123-reg.co.uk:195.224.48.118 rcpt [EMAIL PROTECTED] : not existing recipient @4000462740f413a6a99c CHKUSER rejected rcpt: from [EMAIL PROTECTED]:: remote :n17c.bullet.sp1.yahoo.com:69.147.64.126 rcpt [EMAIL PROTECTED] : not existing recipient @40004627488300e6b0a4 CHKUSER rejected rcpt: from [EMAIL PROTECTED]:: remote :n33b.bullet.sp1.yahoo.com:209.131.38.215 rcpt [EMAIL PROTECTED] : not existing recipient @400046274f882c1393b4 CHKUSER rejected rcpt: from [EMAIL PROTECTED]:: remote :very.unfortu.net:217.204.31.150 rcpt [EMAIL PROTECTED] : not existing recipient @400046274ff0044e68cc CHKUSER rejected rcpt: from [EMAIL PROTECTED]:: remote :n18c.bullet.scd.yahoo.com:66.218.67.206 rcpt [EMAIL PROTECTED] : not existing recipient @4000462750ff1776f734 CHKUSER rejected rcpt: from [EMAIL PROTECTED]:: remote :twelve.mx.123-reg.co.uk:195.224.48.115 rcpt [EMAIL PROTECTED] : not existing recipient @400046297fa5238ee9b4 CHKUSER rejected rcpt: from [EMAIL PROTECTED]:: remote :six.mx.123-reg.co.uk:195.224.48.121 rcpt [EMAIL PROTECTED] : not existing recipient @4000462f550526b0caf4 CHKUSER rejected rcpt: from [EMAIL PROTECTED]:: remote :n31.bullet.scd.yahoo.com:66.94.237.25 rcpt [EMAIL PROTECTED] : not existing recipient -- Alastair Battrick http://www.aj8.org

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 My guess would be some sort of SQL timeout or connection limit. Yes, vpopmail stores user data in MySQL Query caching is your friend here, there are also lots of archive messages concerning setup in MySQL to avoid issues with authentication, chkuser, etc. All apply. DAve -- Three years now I've asked Google why they don't have a logo change for Memorial Day. Why do they choose to do logos for other non-international holidays, but nothing for Veterans? Maybe they forgot who made that choice possible.
