Try the following _IMAP_ syntax:

i checked the mail log file and found the following:
imap service init from 192.168.0.169
Preauthenticated user=vpopmail host=nete.linux
[192.168.0.169]
i am perplexed as to why is the IMAP server pre
authenticating and not asking for any password.
