I haven't done anything with valiases, but wouldn't you need to include 
Maildir in the path?  Try 
/home/vpopmail/domains/domain.com/user/Maildir/.

Yes you are right, however adding the Maildir in the path still 
produces the same result. Its certainly not a big issue as it
works with an email address.
