When I add a request and a reservation as shown in instructions for creating
a windows base image, I get the following output in the log:

root entry I placed in the passwd file. Any clarification as to the
permissions would be greatly appreciated.

I can't quite wrap my head around the above error. The ssh command is
executed and returns the correct output of an ls command on the network
share and yet it still flashes a warning. Has anyone seen this before?
Also, I noticed that the command is using /etc/vcl/winxp_blade.key as the

I am curious as to the networking setups people are using with the VCL. Has
anyone had success setting up the service to assign IP's for VM reservations
based on port number or is it better to use a different IP address for each
VM provisioned by the service?
I am trying to use ESXi to host the virtual machines. I tried using the vcl
service with' VMWARE_MAC_ETH0_GENERATED=yes ' in the configuration
file. This caused the service to fail with the error ' Could not query
for VM in VI PERL API '. I am not sure if this is a bug or if this
the free version as well. I don't seem to understand your
workaround.
Do you mean that: Instead of specifying the IP:path_to_images for Data
store path, I would rather benefit from specifying just the IP: ?
Thank you for your feedback,
Amit

I believe when you are creating a base image, the vmguest name should be the
same as the name of the image you are creating it should be in a format like
vmwarewinxp-base7-v1. Note that the vm you are imaging should have this
name as well as the vmdk file. Your other problem with the hostname is
When testing the service I noticed something curious. If I make a

is powered on again - the vm is reloaded. What is strange to me is that

It sounds like you have your base image set up to use a static IP address.
This setting will be passed to any images you try to spin up. I'm not sure
exactly how Windows 2003 works but you should be able to configure the NIC
on your base to request an IP from a DHCP server.

So the next version of the Vmware code will use VIX as well? And I am
guessing Vmware locked down write operations for VIX?

I've noticed this behavior as well, where the command succeeds but it is
