[vdr] Question about audio on FF C2300/Nexus-CA

2007-04-17 Thread Simon Baxter
Hi everyone.

Can you use a fully-featured card (with MPEG decoder) without using the
decoder?

I've read you need to attach an external cable from the card audio output to
the PC soundcard. Is this necessary???

Can you just use xineliboutput or vdr-xine as a soft device instead??

Question is, when you're using a CAM to decrypt channels, can it decrypt
multiple channels simultaneously like the above for FTA???

 AFAIK, yes, under certain conditions:
 1) vdr 1.5.x needed
 2) your CAM must support multiple streams
 3) your CAM must respond to query request

 Thanks

 Any known working DVB-C/CAM/CI combinations?

My combination:

Technotrend Premium C-2300
Technotrend Premium 3.5 CI
AlphaCryptLight CAM
SmartCard K02 (Kabel Deutschland)
vdr-1.4.x

Yes you can select the output device in the VDR setup menu.
Softdevice will be one of the available devices for output.

[vdr] Question about epg.data updating.

2007-04-17 Thread VDR User

When VDR compares epg data to see whether its been updated, does it
actually compare the show description/info data or just certain fields
in the epg data entry? I'm guessing the latter because I've noticed
that when I populate extended epg data, a lot of shows will have a
generic description. I let a few days go by and the generic
description is still there in my epg data but if I delete epg.data and
re-populate it, the description is updated. This leads me to believe
VDR isn't comparing the entire epg entry for changes but perhaps just
changes with show name or so.

Can anyone add clarity to this? It's happened so many times that I
can't believe it's coincidence.

[vdr] EFF Europe petition against IPRED2

2007-04-17 Thread Johannes Stezenbach
Hi,

IANAL so forgive me if it is irrelevant, but to me it seems
important enough to pass the information on.

Quoting http://www.copycrime.eu/ :

On April 24th, the European Parliament will vote on IPRED2, the Second
  Intellectual Property Enforcement Directive.
  ...
If IPRED2 passes in its current form, aiding, abetting, or inciting
copyright infringement on a commercial scale in the EU will become a
  crime.

The two key problems here are:
1. undefined meaning of commercial scale and incitement
2. it becoming a crime (as opposed to a a subject of civil law)

My understanding is that e.g. it could become a crime to write
software which could be used to record pay-TV without the
broadcaster's consent, even though using a valid subscription.
(But, again, IANAL, so my understanding could be wrong -- you
have to decide for yourself. I think currently there is no law
against writing such software, only using it might be a
(minor) infringement.)

The goal of the petition is to ask the European Parliament
to amend IPRED2 with clear definitions of the language,
and to clearly limit the scope to real criminals (i.e. people
making money selling fake designer watches or cloned DVDs etc.).

Visit http://www.copycrime.eu/ for more info and to sign
the petition if you want to support it.

Thanks,
Johannes

[vdr] analog input with TT C-2300??

2007-04-17 Thread Simon Baxter
I'm looking at getting a Technotrend C-2300 card.

The card specs on dvbshop.net indicate:

Bu 1 Audio-In 3,5mm Jack-plug
Bu 2 Composite-Video-In Cinch-female connector

Does this mean there's an MPEG2-encoder onboard as well? How do I use
this? With v4l2/ivtv and pvrinput?

Thanks

Yes it's a full featured card(lacking in some areas like rf-out though)
with hw mpeg2 encoding. I'm also considering buying this card and
any comments or experiences from users of this card are more than
helpfull. Especially on picture quality of the composite-out and
possibly rgb-out if someone's hacked it(alot harder than 2.1 cards
I hear).
