Re: [vdr] https://www.vdr-portal.de/

2022-09-12 Thread Frank Neumann
Well, known fact, vdr-portal.de has been in maintenance mode before certificate
did expire.

I assume its again "unfriendly fire", too many crazy people out there, but
haven't got any feedback till date ... unfortunately.

Cheers

Re: [vdr] [ANNOUNCE] VDR successfully ported to Windows

2012-05-19 Thread Frank Neumann
VDR was designed to run on older equipment with limited resources

This is nonsense, like Windows (MCE) VDR can run same hardware with limited
resources, but with all the same pro's and con's. Actual distros with their
actual kernels do have the same requirements to hardware. And looking to the
common DVB stream rates here in Europe, users need appropriate CPU power even
if they use a hardware decoder. Nobody want to wait 30min until a HD recording
is cutted ...

@WinVDR

Wow, sounds interessting, keep us updated about progress :-)

Hi,

I stopped to use Windows many years ago -- no interest from me for bloatware
with all it's problems and horrible support.

There are many programs in Windows to watch TV and some is completely free. But
as you know a huge number of people use pirated software -- I have doubt that
these people will be interested in your port.

VDR was designed to run on older equipment with limited resources -- Windows
goes against this policy by definition. VDR was designed for smaller system and
there is a trend to use it in embedded systems.

From my past experience (I work as Systems Analyst at one of biggest
universities of Canada) 85% of Windows users are mouse monkeys -- they even
do not know how to set variable. Do you expect that they will be able to
configure and dig inside of VDR with it's plugins -- I have big doubts in this
regard.

Andy

Re: [vdr] noad-0.7.3 and HD ?

2012-05-01 Thread Frank Neumann
Hi there Karim,

Is there any version or any patch I missed ?

noad did never work with HD recordings, there has only been a patch a couple of
time ago, which made it possible to recognize HD recordings for noad, to stop
scanning immediately in case of and not to waste CPU time.

If you want to have that funktionality, you need to look at vdr-plugin-markad.

Re: [vdr] vdr crashes when replaying zero length recording

2012-03-13 Thread Frank Neumann
last I heard yavdr uses a bunch of patches but since I don't use it I don't
 know that 100%.

Well that's always good and cheap to talk about things about any individual
heard about ... :-(

@Torgeir

Which version of yavdr do you use? Might it be possible to open a case on
vdr-portal.de in yavdr sub-forum? English language is pretty much ok, at least
I'm able to answer ... ;-)

Re: [vdr] vdr crashes when replaying zero length recording

2012-03-13 Thread Frank Neumann
Your claim that my comment is cheap is completely uncalled for.

Well, just needless, even you should realize that comments like this don't help
anybody.

That's what I read: Hey stupid I'm super cool and able to compile VDR by
myself, you're a nobody just able to use this bullshit yaVDR ...

And I guess I'm pretty much not alone with this impression, or did you had just
a fragment of any helpful value for that guy ...

Re: [vdr] vdr crashes when replaying zero length recording

2012-03-13 Thread Frank Neumann
Hi Tor,

well honestly, I don't think it's one of the patches, it seems for me rather to
be again somehow vdr-plugin-extrecmenu.

The VDR version as of today has been tested since 2 month, to become part for
stable-vdr (first lucid, then natty) and nobody did realize this problem. But I
need to mention, pretty sure nobody did test extrecmenu, it isn't part of
yavdr-essential.

Could you please try to replay these recordings using the VDRs own
functionality?

Regards
fnu

PS.: It would be much easier to chat about this in a thread in vdr-portal.de,
instead of bothering this mailing list.

Got some hints at the vdr portal on how to get debug output. The crashlog
contains this stacktrace;

I presume it would be cause by one of the patches yavdr uses, since it also
happens with only the xine plugin enabled. This is yavdr 0.4, with latest
updates as of today.
