[vdr] linuxtv.org downtime around Mon Nov 30 12:00 UTC

2015-11-29 Thread Johannes Stezenbach
Hi,

the linuxtv.org server will move to a new, freshly installed
machine tomorrow. Expect some downtime while we do the
final rsync and database export+import. I'm planning
to start disabling services on the old server about
30min before 12:00 UTC (13:00 CET) on Mon Nov 30.
If all goes well the new server will be available
soon after 12:00 UTC. The IP address will not change.

Next try tomorrow, around the same time.

The move is complete, the new IP address is 130.149.80.248.
Please report if something doesn't work.

(Note that you can't access git.linuxtv.org via the IP address
because it is a named virtual server. You can add it to
/etc/hosts if you don't want to wait until DNS updates
have propagated.)

Most likely off-topic on this list, but this was solved, see:
http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-me...@vger.kernel.org/msg03569.html

 $ rm .hg/dirstate
 $ hg purge --all

Or better hg update -C null.

That gets rid of the working tree but retains all of the data necessary for
use in a repository in which no actual development work takes place. (The
working tree can be recreated, if needed, with hg update.)

hg push doesn't create a working tree at the destination, thus
there's nothing to get rid of.

Guys, I don't like the way you do this. ;-(

Why didn't you propose this API when we reviewed multiproto?
Meanwhile there are applications (vdr, others?) which implement the
 multiproto API.

The proposal isn't new, there was some discussion on the
list in Nov 2007. For reasons unknown to me I cannot
find Steve's original mail on the topic in the list archives,

 Am I missing something here?

Maybe you don't have the locale files for iso8859-15 installed?
(At least in Debian you can choose to install only a subset of
the glibc locale files.)

[vdr] EFF Europe petition against IPRED2

2007-04-17 Thread Johannes Stezenbach
Hi,

IANAL so forgive me if it is irrelevant, but to me it seems
important enough to pass the information on.

Quoting http://www.copycrime.eu/ :

On April 24th, the European Parliament will vote on IPRED2, the Second
  Intellectual Property Enforcement Directive.
  ...
If IPRED2 passes in its current form, aiding, abetting, or inciting
copyright infringement on a commercial scale in the EU will become a
  crime.

The two key problems here are:
1. undefined meaning of commercial scale and incitement
2. it becoming a crime (as opposed to a a subject of civil law)

My understanding is that e.g. it could become a crime to write
software which could be used to record pay-TV without the
broadcaster's consent, even though using a valid subscription.
(But, again, IANAL, so my understanding could be wrong -- you
have to decide for yourself. I think currently there is no law
against writing such software, only using it might be a
(minor) infringement.)

The goal of the petition is to ask the European Parliament
to amend IPRED2 with clear definitions of the language,
and to clearly limit the scope to real criminals (i.e. people
making money selling fake designer watches or cloned DVDs etc.).

Visit http://www.copycrime.eu/ for more info and to sign
the petition if you want to support it.
