 It's a known bug that's been there for years - try starting the files
 using su (e.g. su - -c COMMAND USER), that should setup a proper
 environment and it shouldn't segfault.

thank you sooo much - that's the solution to this specific problem! now i can 
start the xineliboutput frontend via init (by switching to anouther user in the 
init-script)!
