Hi,
Can we do multistreaming from one filesystem? I want to do this because the
subdirectories on a filesystem contains tens of thousands of small files and
the backup runs quite slowly (i'm sure of shoe shining too). The filesystem
is structured like this:
Mount point:
/abc/def

Hi guys,
Am attempting to change a Netbackup Master's platform.
It is from Unix to another flavor of Unix.
Can I just copy the
/usr/openv/netbackup/db
/usr/openv/volmgr/database
/usr/openv/var
from the old server to the new server and expect it to work?
Previous encounters from others
Run this:
/usr/openv/
or C:\usr\openv
vmglob -set_gdbhost master.server.name.com

Almost, but try this:
NEW_STREAM
/abc/def/one
NEW_STREAM
/abc/def/two
NEW_STREAM
/abc/def
/abc/def/three
/abc/def/misc
You should try it with the NEW_STREAM directive before every stream you
want. Works for me that way.

First off I have never tried moving the files, I don't even know if that
will work.
To do it properly, you need to take a catalog backup of the old system and
import it into the new one, this is the only way to ensure everything will
be OK.

After copying over the catalogs, I started NBU and everything was ok.
I am able to see the policies, storage units and backups ran.
But under the device management, I can't see anything
Hi,
Can a Master/Media Server be changed to a Master only role?
What happens to the backups/media that used to be on it?

Hi Daniel
No problem, you just have to move all tapes assigned to the server to
another media server using the bpmedia -movedb command.

I have been asked what we would plan to do if the following occurs.
A restore is necessary at a remote site which contains a media server
while the network connection to the master server is not functional.
Waiting for the connection to be restored is not one of our options.
I'm assuming that
You'd need to replicating the catalog to the remote site, all thats on the
media server (for 5.1) is the mediaDB, and in 6.0 that isn't even stored
on the media server.

This directly contradicts your earlier statement:
There won't be any change of hostname or IP.
You need to be absolutely positive that *nothing*

We have almost the same setup albeit with one master/media and one media
server, including the %$#*)^% Celerra. SSO requires only the license to

I've been running Netbackup on Solaris since about 1998 or 1999, and as
stable as it is, It's pretty obvious by now that Sun's Sparc
architecture stuff typically doesn't have the PCI bus/bridge bandwidth
that would be most advantageous in a backup env.

Austin,
Have you actually used a niagra as a backup server? Does it
really have the bus/backplane bandwidth to handle life as a master/media

Does anyone have a script that will run on a UNIX (or Linux) master to
do a remote stop of the NBU daemons on a Windows Media Server?
Currently I have a script that does this on all my UNIX media servers

Does anyone has experience with the backup of EMC DiskXtender volumes

We have a server with DiskXtender running. On a volume we have 10 million
stubfiles with extended attributes that contain the link between the original
file and the archived file. We tried to manage it to backup
