I am attempting to restore a DB using the Veritas SQL agent on a SQL
2005 cluster with no success. I have managed to restore both the MSDB
and Master Databases successfully (by running MSSQL in single user mode
for the Master and stopping SQL agent for the MSDB); but the non system

What is the best practice in reusing old netbackup catalogue tapes? It
is just to use the bplabel to erase the internal label?

With 5.1,
You can pretty much tar openv and build out a new system with the same
settings and untar it back where it was, no issues.
Does anything change under 6.0?
I'd (PRESUME?) you could do the same thing as long as you install ICS

Or is
Hi Bevan,
Sounds like the Netbackup server is not set on the client. If it was a
UNIX client I'd say check the bp.conf file for the SERVER setting, but
for a Windows client I believe this is set in the registry and is
usually done at install time.
For the registry stuff I don't know exactly the
I'm not sure I understand the issue...
1) If you need to change the windows client properties you can do it
from the Netbackup Backup and Restore app. Just go to file -- client
properties.
2) If you can't restore to that server then Netbackup thinks its
something else aka ... You can't run a
Be sure DISALLOW_SERVER_WRITES (sp?) = NO. You run bpgetconfig -M client and
grep/find for DISALLOW and check that it is set to no. If it is set to yes, you
can only change it on the client.

Of all the things
If you are still having the problem, open regedit on the client. Goto
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config
There is a multi-string key entry for Server
Add your master server name in the data for that key
If the key does not exist add it as a multi-string key and
If you edit the registry, make sure the master is the 1st server in
list!

Upgrade to 6.0 and treat them like any other tape - with expiration
dates, pools, etc. When they expire, they'll go back in
To those NBU Aptare users:
I'm already convinced of the vendor preference for Aptare as the third party
NetBackup reporting tool alternative, what I'd like to know is the real world

1. Cost management.
