A reinstall seemed to fix the situation.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Recently we have found that for some reason the DSSU policy takes a long time
to finish. The tape drive mounts the volume but sits there for 5 hours before
it actually starts. I have spoken to the guys at Symantec and they say it is

Yes, there is a Netbackup Sharepoint agent you have to purchase
separately similar to exchange and sql. It backups up the entire
sharepoint site and database. If you are running 2007 I'd checkout the
compatibility with NBU 5.1.

According to the compatibility guide (264318), SharePoint Server 2003
is supported via the SQL server agent. See 264854 for more details.

Tim your idea worked. I was able to load a tape and move it from one drive to

That being said, if you have a large SP deployment, site restores will
take quite a long time. You *can* script something on the SP side using
stsadmin to export the sites to .DAT files, then use a filesystem
backup to grab them. Otherwise, you're going to need to restore the
entire database, then
Is there no way to backup internally to disk, rather than purchase an
agent and upgrade?
Not knowing Sharepoint that well, one would think there is an ability to
perform certain backups and restores.
Maybe a search on google ?

I've noticed lately that when we perform our test restores, they
frequently complete with a status 1 (Partially successful) and the
warning of Restore must be resumed prior to first image expiration on

Why not just use tpautoconf -t?

Again, the bottleneck here is an extremely slow API. If you have a
large SP farm, doc-level backups are impractical.

As far as third party providers go,
Avepoint / DocAve is one of the leaders from what I hear.
Also Netapp will be re-branding the DocAve product and tweaking it to
work at a snapshot level. Think SnapManager for Sharepoint if you have
any Netapp to play with.
The STSADMIN tool is good to
CommVault also has a SP agent, however it too, uses the MS API to SP.

I have seen this message when a filesystem has been filled to 100% of capacity.
Then the backup stops and it displays incomplete. I do not think it closes

I have not had good results with wizards defining devices for me. I suspect
that this command acts like a wizard.
When I setup the devices via a script they work, and I do not have to spend
valuable time figuring out why tape drives are not functioning properly.
What version are you using? Vault has been included since v5.

As long as you are using DNS and not host files it is pretty simple, the
DNS needs to propagate out, but other than that it is really straight
forward.

Hello Randy
What name resolution are you using? Providing all communication is done via
name, using a Service like WINS / DNS (preferred) then it should not really
cause a problem.
If you have clients that backup via IP address only, then these will need to
point to the new Server IP.
