Yesterday we had an issues with an rman backup started on an Oracle

However because the Oracle server was not known (not able to resolve) by
the Master Server it never returned anything to this Oracle server.
Rman apparently

Enable logging BPBRM I think you may need.

Bpbrm is set to level 5 logging, no logs are being generated tho. I
suspect the backup server is out of memory to accommodate the restore.

Reboot the client (if at all possible) ?
Sometimes, when enabling logging, you need to restart the netbackup
client service too :-)

I got a similar error and had to call Symantec for support. Are you
looking for a VM Host or the Virtual Center? If you are pointing to the
Virtual Center you have to change the port under Credentials --
Virtuaql Machine Servers to port 443 to connect. The default 902 is
only for communication
Hi Jonathan , what version of NBU were you using ? According to the
docs on what's new in 6.5.2 it says :-
Connect using port number
Unless the port number was changed on the VMware server, no port
specification is required. If the Connect using port number box is
checked,
deselect it.
When I first tested it was on 6.5.1 and I definitely had to select a
port. Since then I've upgraded to 6.5.2 and the port box is still
checked. YMMV.

I know this was a problem in 6.5.1, but not sure if it was resolved in
6.5.2, but still, worth checking. Netbackup expects the VCB framework to be
installed in the default location. c:\program files\... if not, the listing
of the clients will fail

I have been told that during te installation of the NetBackup Oracle
agent some files of rman are bing overwritten. Is this true? I only
thought that the agent just links an rman library.

All,
If you are running a Solaris NBU master server and are planning on
upgrading to 6.5.2, think twice. We just upgraded and now backups
simply do not work. Backups either do not start AT ALL when scheduled
or manually started backups error out with code 230.

I don't believe it overwrites anything. All you have to do is link one of
the RMAN libraries to the NBU agent.
The installation includes a script to do this linking.
From memory, it is something like /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/oracle_link

A BackupExec tape that is unencrypted can be read by either Netbackup or
BackupExec with an appropriate drive type. I haven't administered
BackupExec in a while, but if I remember correctly, put the tape in the
drive, select the media in BackupExec and select Inventory. Netbackup
can also read
I thought this was fixed in 6.5.2a which was just released

Greetings,
Is there a way that we can identify a Backup Copy Creation? A Netbackup Image
can have multiple copies and the copy creation time of each copy can be
different. Bpimagelist and bpimmedia seems to have only assigned times in their
output. How can we identify the copy creation time?
Most all know, but perhaps not well enough emphasized in this forum is
that anyone whose thinking about migrating to 6.5.2, especially with
Solaris infrastructures, should hold off and wait until the special
6.5.2.a release is available.

FYI - the only difference in 6.5.2 and 6.5.2A is that the A version will
automatically convert the database STREAMS file (in
netbackup/db/images/CLIENT_NAME UNIX path or

In Netbackup 4.5 through 5.1 you could copy the Netbackup
