I've done instalation of NBU 6.5.4 on SC3.2 last week.
So, I can tell, that NBU works fine on SC3.2 and there are no problems during
new installation. If you plan to upgrade NBU Server to NBU HA Server You should
contact Symantec support. ;(

This is for an alternate client restore to a client that I cannot get the nbu
ports opened for. I've been told that if I can restore the rman files as plain
files, they can then be moved to an appropriate server where the dba's will be
able to restore the db from them. Does this sound correct

I would start with the easy stuff to look at. It almost sounds like your Data
Domain VTL tape size is larger than your MSL6060 physical LTO tape. I would
check that and compare sizes.

vmchange will let you change the media type, the volume group and even the
barcode on active tapes. There are more options, but those are the only ones I
have actually done.

If the media has already been loaded you will need to change the volume group
too
vmchange -m -new_v 001_1_TLD (though you will need to check what
the volume ID is on another tape to make sure, I am guessing)

You cannot make any change to a tape if it has valid images on it.
So if you do not want to expire the tapes, change one of your drives to the
same media type as the tapes you want to restore from.
