Hello,
Regarding Symantec NetBackup:
I cannot comment on the length of backup/restore, there is some overhead
obviously when the client has to compress the data before it sends it to
the media server, upon restore, I have not tested that scenario. The main
benefit for compression before
Does anyone have any thoughts on the differences between 6.5.x and 7?
Strikes me that it is just a new version to cover the newer MS apps and stuff.
I think that apart from the demise of NOM it's little difference in structure
and could be just overlayed on any existing 6.5.x install.

Format your DSSUs with a 64k block size.
Use 64K block size on raid group.
Disable compression (if you can't use 64k block size.)
Lower the number of concurrent writes to the DSSU.
Occasionally clear the DSSU to relieve fragmentation.
Clear the DSSU, write a single backup to the disk, then stream
IMHO
Client side compression takes more overhead on the client.
Hardware compression puts the overhead on the tape drive.
(never use both! Never never)
I use hardware compression, tape drives do it just fine. And nothing special
to do for restores.

How I understand it, it is that there's still room left on the tape to use and

Found this info
Nonactive media are those with a status of FULL, FROZEN, SUSPENDED, or
IMPORTED. Other volumes are considered active.
Which still does not cut it with me, as because I have a lot of tapes that are
NOT full, but do not say active.

Hi Judy, thanks for the reply! That does look like my error. I'll have

FYI...
You can't use a path. You can only use a file or directory name for
exclusion. I have added _NoBackup to end of the folder name. That way
everyone knows that a file will not be backed up if they put it in the
folder. This should also keep the name unique. Anything else in the
volume
