May all want to take a look at this, as it may prove to be
helpful - had to use it myself when I had a major disaster with my destroyed
media servers!!

I
think you could builda new media server (new name), before removing the
media server from the app server. Then use "bpmedia -movedb" to change
ownership of all backup images owned by the old media server, to the new media
server. Then decommission the app server

Hi
I have done this for a customer and it works
fine. I also tend to remove the robot and
tape drives from the old media server to ensure that the global database is
cleaned up.

Ed, how does one get access to a 'pre-release' ?
Log a call with support and work the issues you have. There's no
guarantee that the pre-release fixes your specific issues or that it
won't break something else (we've already reported an issue

Title: Solaris 10 Zones
Hi all,
I'm fairly new to Solaris 10 trying to work out the best way to back up a Solaris 10 server with local zones (NetBackup 5.1). Any suggestions or pointers to best practice?
It seems that by default :

A while ago I posted up about Aptare versus Bocada. The story behind the
e-mail was that we already had Bocada, however our new manager was
looking to replace it with Aptare. We have a demo install of Aptare and
I'm very impressed with it, unfortunately it looks like we will be stuck
with Bocada
I've also seen that issue when you install software that
doesn't support that version of the Client's OS. For example, installing
NetBackup 5.1 onto a server running HP-UX 10.20. Just a thought.

I just noticed something. When recently preparing a restore, I made the
selections and then checked to see what media was required. The dialog
box told me one piece that was in our tape library. When the job was
submitted and started to run, the job was looking for an additional tape
which was

When doing performance analysis Veritas has given me a utility called
SAS which runs with a few options and creates an .xml file which they
then run through some program which spits out a .pdf. The tool utilizes
ICMP so its much easier to use than anything port based and its given me

I'm actually familiar with SAS, which is a Stand Alone Sequencer from
Apparent Networks. It's designed to send a specific sequence of packets
that traverse the network and then based on the order in which they come
back Apparent Networks then produces a report about potential network
problems.

I've contacted Bocada already and am working with them as well, but I
figured that it couldn't hurt to ask if anybody else out there has put
together some good reports for Bocada.

I don't have an idea how my netbackup admin fixed it. My sysadmin told
me that she did several changes at the netbackup server and also
modified the bp.conf file. After each change was made, I was asked to do
the testing, and finally it worked.
Mike,
If everything on the netbackup server is OK,
Hi everyone,
I have seen subjects on data de-duplication here. For those using such type of
solutions such as data domain, pure disk etc:
- What are your experiences?
- Do you lose any throughtput while using such solutions and any worries with
data corruption?
- The bulk of our backup data
