I have some Unix systems that performed very well when backing up to a 1Gbit
connected DSSU Media Server. However when that Media Server NIC was upgraded
to 10Gbit the performance dropped dramatically (85 MB/sec 40 KB/sec). When I
point these Unix systems back to another 1Gb Media Server
Hi,
Show your network topology?
Also have read the 10Gbps tuning documents on the net?
Essentially you want to use jumbo frames if you want over 3gbps is what I
read in one document.

This technote says that you can /must not do it
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/267137.htm
But this technote gives you instruction how to do it
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/337970.htm
Read and choose.
I had successfully follow the second technote ones.

Hi,
Per your second e-mail:
Before looking at NetBackup, use iperf and run that first.
http://lkml.org/lkml/2010/2/25/438
If iperf does not perform because of a switch issue or other bandwidth
limitation, you aren't going to get anywhere :)

Greetings,
We are running NBU 6.5.3.1 with a Quantum (ADIC) i2000 Scalar library.
We currently have a bunch of LTO2 drives, but want to switch to LTO4 and
get rid of our inline encryption appliances. We know about QEKM and
QSKM, but are trying to go with a more vendor neutral solution. Also,
For what it’s worth, I finished my upgrade to v7 late yesterday, so I’ve just
checked in on my overnight backups.
So far, so good..
My only issue NBU-related was that my BMR databases wouldn’t upgrade. It wasn’t
a huge problem, I had it set up but didn’t use it (I need to rtfm more to
I'm currently using NetBackup 5.1 and able to copy image files between master
servers to facilitate restores at the other site. Have done this for years.
Just copying images files to alternate master server place media into the other
site's library and in a special pool, and modify the
IMO, those characterizations of the content of the cited technotes
can be improved:

No, that two-year-old technote that says support will 1) help you
recover if you try it yourself and 2)
Yes, you can continue to work that way.

Hello,
Has anyone ever used a client rev that is one higher that your NBU
environment. (6.5.5 Windows Client with 6.5.4 NBU Media/Master Servers)
I know it is not suggested/supported by Symantec. I need to put the NBU
environment upgrade change on the calendar. A 2008 R2 machine has been
I'm running hardware LTO4 encrytion with 12 IBM LTO's in a Sun L1400

in anything that your find out on this. Does this issue occur in all
KMS + SSO installations?
Thanks

The bottom of the doc says for Solaris only.
There is another doc that says on windows servers if you try to do two
encrypted restores at the same time they will fail.. work around is to
only do one restore at a time.

I'm seeing this problem currently. For me, at this point, it isn't a
huge deal, I'm having approx 1-2 failures per day. The strange thing is
that it always fails on the same client/policy, which happens to be a
client initiated SAP backup job. It also seems to happen some of the
time when
Since we've upgraded 3 of our master servers and media servers, we've noticed a
serious performance hit on all 3 masters.
All master servers are Solaris boxes running version 10 of the O/S.
All media servers are Solaris 10 boxes.
Backing up to 2 VTL systems with 400TB each.
Backing up to DSSU
OKjust one more thing.
Anybody have any backup or performance issues with Sun J4400 disk arrays?

I'm using IBM LTO4 in a Dell ML6010 (Rebadged ADIC i500) with KMS and

I am using W2K8 X64 with NBU 6.5.4
We are using the IBM Drivers for the LTO4 as per compat matrix.
We are a pretty small tape environment in the scheme of things though,

Hi smpt1,
do you mean the image files is the Netbackup db catalog files that was
stored a the default installation path /usr/openv/netbackup/db?Can I
just do a solaris cp command to copy the files to another path? Do I
need to shutdown the netbackup services by running # netbackup stop
Yeah even i am experienceing the same performance problem in 6.5.5, even java
console, Netbackup Admin console etc. are working very slow.
