Hi James
Yes done this, in different ways
Key thing is, that you have a DR plan in place should something go
wrong.
In my view, upgrade to NBU 7.0
Before going to Win2k8, get a GOOD Backup of the System (as it is) and a
Catalog Backup of your current working environment :-)
Upgrade to Win2k8
Just to add to Justin's points, which I agree with, do make sure your
Hardware is well specc-ed up, as I have noticed some slowdown with 2k8
and 7.0.1

I was checking the Microsoft site for upgrading tips and it said to uninstall
all non-native Microsoft applications. Were you able to upgrade the OS without
removing the NBU software?

your bits are changing to Windows x64 2008, right?
I wouldn't waste time with 32-bit Windows at all going forward
get current machine on 6.5.6
cold catalog backup
have new machine ready with 2008...same hostname
recover catalog to new box/OS
test backups and restores
wait a couple of
You know, you could run the upgrade advisor that is online or come with
a CD :-)
What I would make sure is, your hardware is Future Proof and will run
wk8 and NBU 7.0
As I said, I have noticed some slowdown, but I plan to move off to
faster hardware (64bit native) soon.
Hi,
Sun SL500 with NB7. LTO-4
I am trying to backup our mail sever, it took forever and then after few hours
keep getting.
1: (11) system call failed
2: (11) system call failed
and
1: (13) file read failed
and also get this
1: (11) system call failed
2: (79) unsupported image format
one thing I noticed in 2008 is that the power option in control panel is set to
balanced by default. Change it to high as balanced didn't balance well for
me. I changed it on my master and media servers and saw much better
performance.
Good Day Mike,
Is the backup with the errors a full backup?
If it happens with full backups you might first look at the client os system.
Are you using 32 or 64 bit os. I can not remember if solaris 10 still support
32 bit.
If 32 bit you might have some addressing issues.
Check the os logs
System call failed usually suggests unknown hostname. Did you test the basic
network connectivity between master/media server and client. Try following
commands
On master/media server
-- bptestbpcd -client clietname -verbose
-- telnet clientname bpcd
-- bpclntcmd -ip clientip
-- bpclntcmd -hn
Here is how we resolved this - it is a feature of linux...
# cat /etc/host.conf
#
# /etc/host.conf - resolver configuration file
#
# Please read the manual page host.conf(5) for more information.
