Hi
all
Quick
question -
Hi all,
I am trying to map NT usernames to NIS usernames and home directories.
I have modified the /etc/usermap.cfg for the accounts whose names
differ, but I cannot find any documentation on how to use the
/etc/symlinks.translations file for mapping the NIS home directory to a
local path.

DSSU - stands for Disk staging Storage Unit , from the
below I would think this is what you are after, whereas you write to the storage
unit and then duplicate off to tape at a later stage.
DSU - stands for Disk Storage
Unit.
For DSSU's you can set up schedules to write off to
tape

In respect of knowing what client backup was on the monthly tape.
For example if SERVER1 was backed up with a 1 year retention it is classed as a
monthly backup. That tape is unloaded and placed into a safe / vault. If 5
months down the line they need to restore data for

Use SQL Server's built in functionality to write backups to
disk and then pickup those files with file level backups. Unless you have
a LARGE and UNWIELDY SQL Database that's your best option (and it saves you the
SQL Database Client to boot!) Ok, that's just the way we do it
If you want to work out which tapes are required for a restore either:-- through the admin GUi in the Backup, Archive Recovery pane select the files to be restored as usual and before clicking on the "Restore" button and it tells you which tapes you need-- if you prefer the command line then you

Hi Simon
Make the dbbackup and dbclient directories under Netbackup/logs and raise
verbose to 5, this usually gives a pretty indication of what problem is.

I
have told them to use Activity Monitor and if a tape is needed, verify with the
"Media" gui if it is in the robot. If not, find the tape it wants and chuck it
in :-)

ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES 1 null 2 null (or even c: instead of
all_local_drives) on a windwos 2000 box with netbackup 4.5 client.
Its very strange but it starts to create a file called 'null' which

Are you sure your routing is correct, sounds a bit odd that by setting an
interface you are not using performance improves.
If need be add an entry to the clients bp.conf
We take tapes out regularly, using a script that checks which tapes
aren't going to expire until a certain month. When the script ejects
these, it changes the volume group for the tape to be the month name.
The tape then goes in the box similarly labelled with the month name.

You are putting in an extra l (lower case L).
The null devices on windows only has one lower case L. And the tech note shows
only one.

Too many comments made, so in summary:
1) I look after my catalog, have my own DR plans, and offline / off-site
storage for this, so I am not worried about this.
2) Agreed query the catalog or use AM - it tells you the tape. I am all for
this It's the other site that has all these
