Can anyone explain the advantage and disadvantage of using control file as
compare to using Recovery Catalog DB?
I heard from one DBA is that using Recovery Catalog DB will enable more RMAN
features as compare to using control file? izit true?

Anyone know how to identify from command line what drives are in use, or
what tapes are in use while a job is running.
We have an issue where ops keep opening the jukebox and changing tapes
while jobs are running. The job is fine as the L700 library just

If NetBackup can't move a tape back from the drive to its slot, it will
down the drive (at least in our environment - as the OS is Solaris
will log a message to /var/adm/messages).
We used to have a small robot where the OPs manually changed tapes by
opening the robot up moving tapes. As part
Need to clarify some steps for this process.
Setup NBU 5.1 MP4 - trying to configure SAN Media Server for backups to run
over fibre rather than LAN based.
Connected to a single NODE, ran the setup program and its giving the option
to perform cluster install of NetBackup. Has anyone configured
Recovery Catalog DB. Best to put it on a different machine to avoid the
all eggs in one basket issue.
RMAN is fully functional and is designed to work best with the DB.

This may not be the answer you're looking for, but why not lock the
door, and have ops use the CAP?
The L700 has a 20 cart CAP, and I believe you can add an optional
additional 20 cart CAP.
40 carts at a time ain't to bad.

Do you have a Policy of type Oracle with a Application Backup type
schedule? This is in addition to the Automatic Full Backup type
Schedule which triggers the RMAN script.

Have you created the link from Oracle's /lib/libobk.so binary to the
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/libobk.sio64.1 binary installed
by the Oracle agent?

Yes Thanks for the help. It was SBT_TYPE and i Changed it to SBT_TAPE and
backup went fine.

I have to agree, the issue is that they are opening the robot. There is
a reason that the CAP was created. Just insert the tapes into to the
CAP and run an inventory of the robot with the option to empty the cap
marked.

REQUIRED_INTERFACE is only valid for client initiated backups. So, it is
very important to use in multiple nic environments with database agent

Hi,
First, for me REQUIRED_INTERFACE clearly only works for client

Secondly, I tried to backup a W2003 client through the backup interface

Abhishek,
Have you linked Oracle? I remember seeing these errors when Oracle was
not linked correctly. Create a dbclient log on the host. If no logs
are created when you run the backup then Oracle is not linked correctly.

Two ways to obtain a list of all tape drives logically in use by media
servers across a netbackup environment:
1 vmdareq (not always accurate)
2. bpstulist (to obtain a list of media servers)
vmoprcmd -h $MEDIA_SERVER_NAME -xdraw
The output provides a list of all drives in use.

Hi Bro,
I dont think youi can directly upgrade to 4.5..First you need to upgrade your
4.5 netbackup environment to 5.x then from 5.x you will need to upgrade it to
6.0..Once you upgrade it to 5.x run the NBCC utility to make sure there are no
inconsistencies within the environment once you
Jonathan,
I like the :
vmoprcmd -h $MEDIA_SERVER_NAME -xdraw
But on NB6 this command is better for listing media servers:
nbemmcmd -listhost
