Hi Forum,
I need to import medias on NBU 6.5.3 on which backup has taken place through
NBU 6.0 MP6. Both the server (Sun V890) has solaris 9.
Data size is approx 9.5 TB (20 Medias)
Request your kind suggestions to let me know the steps to import and then
restore it.
Is the catalog information for the images in the image catalog? I'm
going to assume it isn't.
Load all your tapes into your library. Make a text file on your master
server that has 1 tape barcode per line, like so:
vol_ser_1
vol_ser_2
vol_ser_3
etc...
Let's say the text file is called

hypothetically we aren't going to junk our old ADIC Scalar 1000 and the solaris
server that's running netbackup 6 MP4. we're just going to not use them and/or
shut them down until we need to restore something. Or we're going to put in a
SCSI card in the new server and just run the ADIC to the
Verify that the needed ports are open on the windows firewall on the

This is what the troubleshooting says on the error.

* Make sure the NetBackup client software is installed.
* Verify that the bpcd and bprd port numbers in the
Is the NetBackup client service started on the Windows Client?

Hi,
I'm supposed to migrate a Master server version 5.1 from windows 2000 to HP-UX
11i with the same hostname, is it possible to perform this migration without
engaging Symantec Consulting Services? Any scripts available to ease the
process of migration?
Anyone ever done this before? Could

i would run phase 1 from the netbackup admin console. go to catalog and then

then pick the dates and choose import in the gui part for phase 2. last year i
had issues with phase 1 and had to open a support case and they

Phase one do not do dates.
Do

Opens window
Choose a media server
Choose tape
Key in media ID

First step is to create a list of images on the tape.
1. Insert the tape into the robot and inventory the robot. This
should add the media ID to the Media Manager.
2. In the NetBackup Administration Console, expand NetBackup
Management Catalog.
3. Select the menu item Actions
Eeeewww.That can be extremely ugly We've had to bring in
Netbackup Consulting Services to do this type of work so that the new
environment would be supported by Symantec after the move/migration is
done. It's isn't cheap, but it's is well worth a good working
environment.
Thank
i'm doing a solaris to Windows migration. plan is to just import the old tapes
into the new environment when needed. or just keep the old hardware around.
if you can connect both robots to the old server you should be able to migrate
the data from the old tapes to the new ones.
what we do is

So this is a new Netbackup install and the old DLT tapes are from the
old installation? Is using the old catalog as a base for the new a
possiblity? Then you wouldn't have to import any tapes.
To read the DLT tape, you'll need a DLT drive, of course. Why not just
label them as DLT just for
It's not just a fragmentation issue - a defrag'ed file system may also give
you poor destage performance.
A bunch of people have reported this issue but so far nobody has found the
smoking gun. It's an issue on multiple platforms as well.

Regarding moving master server OS:
1. Install the new server OS and NetBackup
2. Stop NetBackup on old environment
3. Cold Catalog Backup
4. Rename old master and new master - so new master has old name
5. Start NetBackup on new master
6. Catalog Restore from Cold Catalog Backup
7. TEST TEST

This will not work because you have to convert some of the files in the
catalog. Not all files can move from windows to unix and still work.

Verdict is in - multiple sources advise against the process I mentioned.
Guess the moral of the story is to stay in a *nix environment...
