Assuming that you are not using VxSS, Did you restart bprd and bpdbm after
you added the SERVER= entry to the bp.conf? It is not enough to just
re-read the configuration.
Check for active backups using:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpps -a
To stop bpdbm:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpdbm
Hi,
We are trying to backup a file system containing hundreds of thousands of

This data has recently been transferred from a windows 2003 box to a vfiler

Guys i'm after a bit of backup as am perhaps doubting myself now.
I'm having a bit of a row with a CSA (solutions architect) at our company.

Hi All
SCAN-TLD keeps appearing and staying on the Master Server - This is also
present on some media Servers.
bounced the Services many times, but when I do, the SCAN-TLD seems to
move to another Media Server, or back to the Master !
Any ideas - NBU Upgrade 6.5.2 Win2k3 SP2
Regards
Simon
Disregard. I ended up starting device manager on EACH Media Server and
this seems to have got around!

The first media server in an SSO environment that starts ltid becomes the
SCAN-HOST for all shared drives (status SCAN-TLD). If a drive is DOWN’ed on the

I thought in 6.x it didn't really matter which was the SCAN-HOST - that
is to say setting priority is no longer important?

I was having an issue with my robot and the scan host.
Support had me set my master to priority 5 so that the master was always
the scan host.
If the master is down it is not going to work anyway.
Once I did that I stopped having issues.

Thanks Marianne!
Yes, after stopping the Device Service on each box, I can see that! What
I could not understand is why the Drives did not come up correctly!!!
Seemed to take absolutely forever ! but as it turned out (from my other
post), I got there in the end !

Do not worry judy - I posted another email to say it was resolved.
I just could not find anything on scan-tld at the time and the drives
would not come back up!
Restarting the Device Service, seemed to do the trick . well doing
test backups now! And it looks ok

I increase the scanability of my master servers to 8 to try to increase
the likelihood of the master becoming the scan host. I've seen
performance (not just backup, but performance in general) on media

Hi Steve,
If the backup windows for the Weekly and Monthly schedules are different,
then NetBackup will run both. If they are the same, NetBackup will skip the
Weekly when the Monthly is scheduled for the same day.

Most servers get really ticked off if you try to overwrite the running OS files
- assuming they'll let you do it at all. Probably because an overwrite is
effectively a delete and then create. So great, what happens when you restore
that critical library file that Solaris was using to run ? Or

Dear All
I faced critical error with my veritas netbackup 5.0 which I used for last two
year to backup my company
We tested this and you are right that you will likely run into problems doing
an entire system restore via netbackup. Even with the best will in the world,
there is bound to be some kind of configuration file which will mess things up
on the running system during the restore. Will the servers
Hi,
I have the same now, but with EMC Celerra, I tested with multistreaming and
multiple backup policies for different mount points, I also created multiple

now I want to team the nics on the media backup server and see
I found the best way is to build the OS to match the original, then recover
all data including system files via NetBackup. I do have BMR configured, but
the sequential order for restore will take much longer then OS, and then
full systems restore on top. I don't do BMR for Solaris and Linux
Can you supply the error of why it is not compleating?
