Re: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup 6 to Netbackup7

It would be easier if you went to the SYMC site and looked at the upgrade
portal. That will provide all the information you need to perform the upgrade.

[Veritas-bu] Tape compatibility

2011-01-05 Thread Infantino, Joseph
We are currently converting from NetWorker to NetBackup and I am wondering if
anyone can tell me if I can re-use a tape that was originally written to in
NetWorker in NetBackup? I know NetBackup can't read the tape, but will it be
able to re-label the tape and re-use it? I suspect it can, but I just want to
be sure.

Just trying to save a buck by not have to purchase all new tapes.

I don't think you need to but you should. Every new NetBackup release
incorporates something different in the license keys. You should have
received and invite from Symantec to upgrade your keys and you should take
advantage of that. There's no charge to upgrade your keys to the current
version.

I was a beta tester. But beta was ended long ago.
I think that they found more problems than they expect.

Hi,

Yes but there are some good features here:

There is also an option to open a case on 7.1. I wonder who is testing
it? :)

Netbackup upgrade from 6.X to 7.X is like a piece of cake. Very very smooth
if compared to 5.X to 6.X upgrade. We upgraded our environment in less than
two hours.

Thanks,

Re: [Veritas-bu] Tape compatibility

2011-01-05 Thread Jim VandeVegt
If certainly should, if it is a tape drive supported by NetBackup.

I would make sure to have these entries in bp.conf: (also a part in the GUI
under master properties that will do it.)
ALLOW_MEDIA_OVERWRITE = DBR
ALLOW_MEDIA_OVERWRITE = TAR
ALLOW_MEDIA_OVERWRITE = CPIO
ALLOW_MEDIA_OVERWRITE = ANSI
ALLOW_MEDIA_OVERWRITE = AOS/VS
ALLOW_MEDIA_OVERWRITE = MTF1
ALLOW_MEDIA_OVERWRITE = RS-MTF1
ALLOW_MEDIA_OVERWRITE = BE-MTF1
I would run a force labeling operation on each tape to make sure. After you
have imported the blank media into the media database in the scratch pool in
a robot NetBackup controls, highlight all them in the GUI and
right-click-select Label. Uncheck 'Verify media label before performing
operation' and acknowledge. (Instructions from NetBackup 6.5.6. YMMV.)

[Veritas-bu] NetBackup 6.5.5 Policy Retention issue

2011-01-05 Thread Dushyant.Mehta

Hello,

We have an infinite retention policy for all our backups. However we had a
restore request for one of the client and while checking images for that client
using bpimagelist, we found out that the image has an expiry date. We went back
to policy to find out that retention on the schedule is still showing
Infinity and the most recent backup copy shows the expiration date.

Has anyone noticed it before? What can we do to resolve it?

Thanks,

What date was listed? If it was sometime in the year 2037, that is how
infinity is represented in NetBackup. Basically it is MAXLONGINT converted into
