Sounds like the master server doesn't like it.
As a quick test, check the host properties of the master, check the SERVERS,
and where you have additional servers, add the machine name to it.
Make sure the client is talking to the correct Master Server too! Look at

Another cause of large cache, is when the AV is not configured correctly -
this also makes the file become larger than required, use all disk space,
and then report to NetBackup that the snap shot failed (156 status).
Again, fine tuning the AV, or turning it off can be of some assistance..
VSS is fine for Win2k3, but you will need VSP for earlier versions of
windows.
Common issue the old cache... there are tools to use to remove the lock,
which is very simple to do. Sysinternals is worth a look around.

I know its based on each environment, but I am happy with my SQL jobs
running the way they are.
Maybe the need for a Media Server would assist (if it is not one already).
I know some SQL gurus prefer their own disk based SQL Backups, but time and
time again, we have used the online SQL Agent
Single Mailbox Backups = A lot of problems.
Info Store Backup = A lot faster, reliable, better!
Sorry, not a fan of BLB (Brick Level Backups) and never will be !

Windows clustering relies on the same OS, platform, hardware config,
drivers, ect !
Not aware of any other type of cluster software that integrates 3rd party
with different types of systems.
One would guess Unix is the same (Service Guard comes to mind). As far as I
knew, it would run on Unix
Im looking at testing 6.5 as we are on 5.1.
Thought we may as well jump to the latest version (seeing as the upgrade
path is workable) and hope for the best.
Symantec Support are raving about 6.5, but I guess they would :-)

while checking the RMAN log its show that the media manager is throwing the

Most of them come from media manager layer
Well first things I would check are:
Stop or disable the snap shot
Perform test backup via name and IP address
Put client in a different policy and test
Uninstall and/or reinstall the client software.

What name resolution are you using? Providing all communication is done via
name, using a Service like WINS / DNS (preferred) then it should not really
cause a problem.
If you have clients that backup via IP address only, then these will need to
point to the new Server IP.

Well my Ex2k3 is a SAN Media - get approx 60 - 80GB+ - I backup the
information store policy and it uses one drive.
You can use the * at the end to stream the stores (which sounds like the
route veritas has made).
To give you an idea, checking last nights backup took 47 mins to backup

(ie: e:\exchsrvr\mdbdata\name ?

doing this, other than importing the tapes that may have been used for this
job (assuming you know what they are).
