If your data is fairly static you may find the built in deduplication of NBU to
be a benefit. Contact your Symantec system engineer for more information. The
time spent on this could save you money and administrative burdens.

John,
If you are using special barcode sequence for the weekly backups then set up a
barcode rule (inventory, advanced); otherwise, what is the problem with letting
the tapes come from scratch and being put into the correct pool. They will be
assigned by pool name and retention.
Howdy,
If you're considering CV you may want to look into Backup Exec as well.
The key question missing for this forum to really help you is; what itch
is your management trying to scratch? Are they looking for cost breaks,
a more reliable tool, or a Windows centric application? Give us
Duncan,
You should set the LUN as a virtual node and create a policy to back up
the LUN. Remember, for a full to be in effect within NBU the full must
be ran as a scheduled job within the policy that contains the client.
So when the LUN moves to another client all backups will be full until

required of W2K servers; whereas, VSS should be used on W2K3.

Yes, but not in the same policy. Just create two policies, using
separate storage units that are associated with different media servers
on the different subnets. The two media server could be on the same
physical machine that is addressed by alias names (e.g. backup01,

Scott,
The 2003 server should be protecting the shadow copy components not the
system state which is for Windows 2000. As for the other performance my
first suggestion is to check the NIC setting. If GigE then auto

Get you last good catalog backup and do a restore, then make sure you
don't fiddle with the Authorization section of the NBU without first
reading and making sure you truly understand what the is going on. It
appears you have successfully restricted everyone from the

As the old man, bob944, is saying the results your coworker is seeing is

Check the client for a mapped drive; if mapped there is a good chance
the 'other-than-Month-End' policy has an exclude. I have seen this when
a USB drive was attached, shared, and then removed without unmounting.
If this is the case, delete drive U:\ from the system.

Simon is correct. The software is on
the Windows CD and the binary is automatically installed. The license key,
when added to the Master server, will unlock the function and the Exchange

The numbers reported are what are reported to NetBackup from the
