[Veritas-bu] Backup logs

2014-03-19 Thread Alfredo De Luca
Hi all.
how and where can I check if an old backup went well. What we seems to have
is the last 2 months where we can check such a thing but we've been asked
to produce evidence of an old backup (older than 6 months) went well.

We have NB 7.5

Cheers

You could restore it somewhere and see if all the data is there
(really, that's the best way to verify a backup). Or you could run
bpverify on it.

Re: [Veritas-bu] Backup logs

2014-03-19 Thread Lightner, Jeff
Typically if I want to see what backups exist for a given policy I use the
following notes:

To see which media / backup IDs etc... were used for a given policy:

  bpimmedia -L -policy policy -d MM/DD/ hh:mm:ss -e MM/DD/ hh:mm:ss
(above is all one line)

where -d = start time and -e = end time range for the backup(s) you need to
find.
The policy specified after -policy would be the one you see in NetBackup Java
GUI.

Note that the range doesn't have to be exact - it can start before the backup
and end after a given backup if you only want to check one day - the idea is to
set it so that it only gets one backup.

2014-03-19 Thread Preston, Douglas
You would need to keep catalog for at least as long as your audit requirements
are.
I have to keep 7 years catalog to be able to show backups completion status.
I don't need to be able to restore all 7 years of data (except Accounting
stuff) just prove I backed it up. Auditors are funny that way.
