Re: [Veritas-bu] Multipathing San drives
Thanks guys you have all confirmed what i have told the so called solution designer to be true and that multipathing tape devices isnt an option. As of Solaris-10, with Sun's bundled mpxio (formerly Traffic Manager), the docs say multipathing for tape devices is not supported. It may be that 3rd-party multipathing drivers could do it, though. Re: [Veritas-bu] Multipathing San drives
You'll need multipathing software. For instance, in the EMC world, you 'll need something like Navisphere. I immediately couldnt see how it could work as Netbackup writes to tape using the /dev/rmt/ devices presented on solaris. I know using disks and mpxio etc you can multipath i/o to disks but is it possible to tape? I just don't want to have told him we shouldn't be doing things like that as its not possible in case it is. Re: [Veritas-bu] Multipathing San drives
We actually do dual (or more) HBAs to SAN so we'll have redundance for disks (EMC Clariion/DMX) so can also SEE the tape drives on multiple paths but only use one path for tapes. Having your tape drives stay on line isn't quite as critical as having your disk drives do it so we've never seen the need to make the paths redundant. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dave Markham Sent: Monday, December 04, 2006 12:01 PM To: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: [Veritas-bu] Multipathing San drives Guys has anyone heard of trying to have resilient Tape drives over fiber? I've never heard of this being done. Multipathing disk drives happens all the time, but never multipathing tape drives (except for VMS where the OS just naturally gets it right as it does just about everything else.) .../Ed -- Ed Wilts, Mounds View, MN, USA mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
