Yes you can do it
The name of the server is
critical for licensing (the var folder) and at the images. If you change the
name and replace the var folder with the old one netbackup will play.

That is how I did it a few times, the other times when I was just moving from smaller to bigger disks, I used a snapshot in Solaris to copy the system from the smaller disks to the bigger disks.

can't change the hostname after the netbackup install (err, well you can if
you're into masochism).
set
the machine up with the same hostname as your existing NBU master, but do it on
a lab network or similar.
or
don't put the system in NIS, so it doesn't register.
