I have a policy with Allow Multiple Data Streams enabled.
It's backup selection is about 15 directories (SAN attached). e.g.
C:\dir1\*
C:\dir2\*
C:\dir3\*
C:\dir4\*
..
I have "Limit jobs per policy" set to 6, so I figured NBU would only allow 6 at
a time. But it tries to create thousands (a job
Oh okay I got it.
So if I limit jobs to 6, it'll still queue all 15 directories in my backup
selection, but will only allow 6 to run at once, correct?

Hi everyone,
In one of my environments we replaced our old SAN switch with a new Cisco. We
went from 1 fabric on the old switch to 2 fabrics on the new Cisco switch.
We split up the tape drives 1, 2, 3, 4 on Fabric A. 5,6,7,8,9 on Fabric B.
After this switch, our media servers are having enorm

So that could be why the Location addresses are duplicating. Would that cause a
problem though?

I tried this on my solaris box, all I get is

Is there anyway to get this same information on a windows box?
What if i'm getting -1, -1, -1 ??

Thanks for the info Judy,
Netbackup actually does not report any -1,-1,-1
I had only seen this in one of the Windows tape drive driver installers. One of
my windows machines that is only seeing 5 of the 9 drives showed the first 5
drives with normal bus, location, id numbers. but the last 4 dr

My environment looks like this:

Fantastic! Thanks, Dean!
Since I only want to do this for my weekend full backup I will have this

this will prevent duplication from running, but not the backup, which is

Just finishing the scripts now. Showtime will be this weekend of course, I'll

Very good points. I wonder if we can get the CentOS crew to make CentNetbackup,
now we'd be saving some money!! :)

I was giving the storage lifecycle policies a test run this morning, and though
the KB article says the duplication process will begin minutes after the backup

We do have Vaulting license. It is however not set up at all, and I have never

What I do know about Vaulting is that it will take the last Full backup images

I guess it's the programmer in me (my background).
But yes, I am very happy with my SLP setup currently and cannot wait to see it
all work this weekend. Thank you all for your help.
I will post here with my results for the interested :)
+
Okay, here's a confusing one...
I used Reports > Client Backups and ran a separate report for the last 9
weekends. (We run full backups on weekends starting Friday night).
My results are surprising and I cannot quantify why it looks this way...
Week Data(TB) Elapsed Hours
W1 14.543
Is the reported elapsed time including the time that job spent in queue? If so
that would explain this, as now I have nearly 1,000 jobs queuing at night that
could explain the jump in total "elapsed time" yet decreased backup times.
+-
Thanks for the info. I see "Active Elapsed" as a selectable column in my
Activity Monitor, but unfortunately, I can't get that column in my Reports for
historical info... I'm thinking command line may be able to pull this info for
me. I am researching, will post my findings :)

Just for the interested:
The SLP setup worked perfectly. No duplication of this SLP was attempted until
my script to reactivate the SLP this morning at 6am. I have effectively cut off
12+ hours of backup time on our weekend schedule. Thanks for everyone's help.
+---
This weekend 95% of my backups finished by Saturday-noon... incredible backup
time savings (they used to run until monday morning)...
yet im reporting ~500 hours of elapsed time. A few months ago without all these
optimizations backup times were running until monday morning and reporting ~300

Hi,
During duplication during the day I am getting "Drive scan host is not active

It's no big issue, but shouldn't it say "Drives are in use" instead ? Because

Here's the situation,
I have a user who needed a file restored. As I checked to pull up the file I
have found that image that has his file expired only 4 days ago.
Is it possible to A) Find out what image/tape it could possible be on and B)
Reintroduce or at least retreive data from it?
+-
Any tips on finding "by hand" ? Everything I've tried so far will only report
to me active images.
