Well this should work, because it sounds almost identical to what my file
based cluster setup was (NBU software was installed as PHYSICAL name,
storage unit was Physical name, but policy was the virtual name!)

Agent is installed on 2 nodes, backup configured as a Virtual Name.

So you will need to try and identify what has happened or been skipped.
Ideally, you should be doing a DB backup for the logs to be purged.
Maybe you could try not doing Mailbox Backups (Brick level backups).

Several reasons - one for example is to allow a Media Server share the SAME
TAPE DRIVE / LIBRARY that is connected to your Master Server.
by default, when you install a Master Server, it is also a Media Server as
well :-)

Ok but if you get the error using the internal NTBackup, then ntbackup
normally reports a problem in either the system or application log,
especially where VSS is involved !

Dont do Mailbox Backups ! Why do it ? When Ex2k3 comes with built in
features to help prevent Mailbox backups.
Setting retentions for 6+ months, Recovery Storage groups, ect.
Failing this, backups over fiber?

new Databases will get included as your Backup Script would have been
configured to select all backups.

Well that does not sound right. Do you understand the import process?
If you have a small number of tapes, then yes you can do this - if you have
350+ tapes, then enjoy the rest of your life with your Tape Library as the
import process will take a long time !
Id rather spend my time coming up
Agree with Ed - In fact I was referring to a few hundred tapes, but
thousands would mean you could potentially end up marrying your Tape Library
and never having an outside life again :-)
