hi everyone,
Can someone clarify the tape label process for me?
Will NetBackup only label tapes the first time a tape is ever used and never
again?
or will it also label tapes that have had valid images on it but are now
expired and put back into the scratch pool?
And if I create the

this?

it would be nice if there was a forum to discuss features, issues, reports, etc.

we started not too long ago with Aptare. so far things are ok but the lack of
documentation from Aptare is killing me, taking up some time trying to find
things on my own. we will have about 1100+ clients.

ok, thanks for your response. reason is, we're testing a new encryption
product (compresses/encrypts) and the lto3 is new to me as well. I did see
elsewhere that the lto3 will disable compression automatically if it has to but
i don't know how to confirm that this is actually happening.
can someone tell me how i can disable compression on an hp 960 lto3 that is in
a sun library. on a windows server, the option to disable is greyed out when
looking at the driver properties, and LTT won't read the drive info (can't
load nt miniport driver issue). called hp and they couldn't

Thanks everyone for your help. I was trying to avoid the multiple policies but

i apologize if there's a thread on this subject already but i wanted to get a

This sounds very similar with what we went through. many of our daily

around the same time the next night. Depending on how busy the
does anyone know which 64bit client to use (6.0 mp6) for an IBM 3850 m2 with
em64t intel processors. has win2003 x64 sp2. i tried the IA64 install and it
says that it's not for this hardware. i ran the setup for amd 64 install and
it looks like it might install. is that right?
I would like to what improvements there might be in our environment with a 64
bit Windows 2003 Master server. is it possible to migrate a 32 bit NB master
server installation to 64bit?

Brendan,
thanks for your input. we might be using BESR for less than half the number of
servers you have. so i hope the disk space isn't an issue for us. neither do
we have the requirement Right now for system restores of non-windows servers.
bmr is free for us too but we need something
i'm trying to do an exchange 2007 restore to an alternate server and the job
keeps failing. a restore to the original source client succeeds. the exchange
client is a clustered and we have CCR passive node backup configured.
the exchange clients are win2003 64-bit clients running nb 6.5.3.
Can someone clarify for me if we need to install this on the master and media
only or all clients as well?clients too.

we have an 8500 as one acs and split it among two nb environments (1 6.0mp6 and

of the 8500. instead, we use ACSLS' volume ownership.

we're planning on replacing our LTO3 drives with LTO4s entirely but want to
utilize the many LTO3 tapes that we still have. The problem that we have is
that Netbackup sees these tapes as different media types/densities because
ACSLS provides it that way and therefore i can't mount hcart3

I have tried that, changing the nb density type of LTO3 to LTO4 but when i run

ckstehman, i may have missed it but what in ACSLS do you need that you have to

thanks Rob, i can configure drives on the same server.
does anyone know that if there's a backup image that spans multiple tapes if
netbackup will be smart enough to know the change in tapes even if i'm not

I know this is a netbackup forum but needed to ask my fellow nb users if you
knew of any products out there that can provide file share
monitoring/reporting. our problem is is that we do use celerra snapshots for
restores but have no way of auditing snapshot restore events. for example, we
we have a few celerra data movers that are sharing 8 tape drives in a NB v7

we have about 8 data movers with about 100TB of data. we're presently using
netbackup and ndmp to back these up over fibre to LTO4 tape drives. i would

for the fastest and/or best way to get this data to data
Can someone tell me if the number of LSUs configured on a system effects dedupe
ratio and overall performance of the DD box? i see that in best practices it
is recommended that one LSU is created per Netbackup environment. i do have
more than LSU configured in one NB environment but i wonder
thanks, we created multiple lsu's for the same exact reason to keep an eye on
ratios of different os's and db's thinking that dedupe and compression would be
done across all the data ingested so the existence of multiple lsu's wouldn't
matter. i'm hoping this is the case

Hi Jack,
i'll second rsavage. we had to upgrade to 5.0.1.7 and use the symantec patch
for 2008 servers as well which definitely helped. We worked for a few weeks
before we got a hold of the right person at DD to figure this out. DD support
has been great but they need to do a better job
Hi Howard, i just did some testing recently too using the network (instead of
