Re: [Veritas-vx] DMP question

2007-11-01 Thread Thomas Cornely
Sengor, Ajay,

There's an updated version of the DMP whitepaper (covering the latest 5.0
enhancements) at:
http://eval.symantec.com/mktginfo/enterprise/white_papers/ent-whitepaper_vsf_5.0_dynamic_multi-pathing_05-2007.en-us.pdf

As far as load balancing is concerned, DMP has historically outperformed PP.
The names of the PP algorithms really is more marketing than anything else. If
you have a chance, try out DMP 5.0's Minimum Queue algorithm and compare.

Remove powerpath and install the ASL for you array if you want DMP.

Re: [Veritas-vx] dmp question?

2007-08-13 Thread Jarkko Airaksinen
Hello,

The only thing that wasn't automatic in my case was the recognition of the type
of the array, i.e. A-A, A/A-A-HP, A-P etc. In my case (A-A array) I had to
manually enable all paths to the luns. I did it when I changed the multipathing
scheme to adaptive with the 'use_all_paths=yes' switch.

Thanks for all replies. Will check support.veritas.com.

You should check failover policies and settings on the array side.

DMP will adjust them automatically - depending on it's ASL support.

 Hi,

I am a little new to vertias volume manger. I have a problem with
understanding multipathing concept and VxVm. As far as I have read

DMP is enabled by default. Volume Manager detects multipath systems with
the Universal Worldwide Device Identifiers (WWD IDs) and manages
multipath targets, such as disk arrays, which define policies for using
 more than one path.

I wanted to ask if there is any additional steps(with vxdmpadm) that I
have to take for a system with 2 hba and 2 fiber switches or volume
manager understands that 4 paths are the same (from wwd ids) and sets up
 evertything by itself?

 Best Regards,

Hi,
If your array is supported according to HCL for DMP, there is nothing to do.
Please be sure that whether your array is automatically sensed with built in
library or you need to download ASL (Array Support library) to use DMP. You can
find that information in the Hardware Compatibility List for the product from
http://support.veritas.com.

Regards,

Asiye
