Re: [Veritas-vx] vmware test setup

Omer,

You would use RDM with CFS. It's fully supported by Symantec that SFCFS
product is the one need to be installed and configured. It includes dynamic
multi-pathing layer, cluster volume manager, cluster file system and
cluster server etc.
In CFS environment, you must configure I/O fencing in order to prevent
potantial data corruption in split brain conditions. I/O fencing requires
min 3 disks (LUNs) compatible with SCSI3 PR. So, you need to have at least
4 disks (3 for I/O fencing and 1 for data).

As an alternate, you would also leverage VMDKs by enabling "multi-writer"
flag in VMware. It is an option defined per virtual disk. It allows more
than one VM to access the same VMDK without causing data loss. CFS can be
installed and built on this config.
In this use case, SCSI3 based I/O fencing is not supported. Coordination
Point Server (CPS) should be used for split-brain protection.

CFS install guide on SORT (sort.symantec.com) will have all the
instructions you need.

Check the following link on enabling multi-writer flag.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. RDM will be much better for now. Btw how many
LUNS for a start should i give ? Any suggestions before i start testing
much appreciated

Regards.

You can use SFCFS 6 for Linux. If you aren't using RDMs, you may have to do
some tweaking of the .vmx files so that one VM doesn't lock the shared LUNs.
