I bought and use Versions, and use Subcommander for svn merge + svn
switch
This is odd - I tried a svn copy src dest -b comment and it seems to have
worked fine. (For information I'm using version 1.5.4 on the command line.)

That is extremely interesting... I wouldn't
I suspect this explains the weird problems I've experienced with XCode
project files (which are also bundles). Versions (or rather SVN) often
doesn't recognise them as being in the repository and/or complains that
'they already exist' when trying to submit.

Actually, probably not. Xcode is SVN-aware, so it doesn't clobber the
.xcodeproj directory at all, only update the files therein
