Re: Another vote for branch/tag/merge

2009-02-12 Thread Nick

Can someone explain this further? Why would files copied at the WC
level, then committed be any different than files copies at the repo
level? Either way, the files are captured in thy state and committed.

Yeah, that's correct. A tag/branch in the repository is a cheap copy,
while the same in the working copy is a full copy.

 +1 for merge here too!

  Just for clarification...

There's a big difference between copying at the repository and copying
at the working copy.  I would imagine that Versions behaves
differently depending on what you're dragging.  In other words, if you
option+drag on folders in a repository bookmark, it performs a tag/
branch.  If you perform an option+drag within a working copy bookmark,
it copies the local files and adds them as new items for the next
  commit.

Can anyone verify that this assumption is correct?

Re: Icon overload in version 1

2008-11-18 Thread Nick

 - Showing the changed file counts for all my working copies in the
left column. That's just unnecessary. Maybe show me counts only for
 the one currently selected?

I absolutely love this feature, it's a great way to get a birds-eye
view of all my code!

Although I'm not clear how to tell versions to refresh all the
counts...

 - This is my big one: The color-dot indicators on the folders in the
 changed view.

I do agree with you here - useful in the All Files view, redundant in
the Changed view. And the dot-overlay does remind me of TortoiseSVN a
bit.

Of course I would be remiss if I did not give a huge bout of praise
for the new 1.0 features overall, and the product as a whole. Versions
is an incredible piece of software and makes me love owning a Mac. I
just bought my license!

I love Versions. I've been using the beta for months and have been
 very happy with it.

With the release of Version 1, however, suddenly I can't look at it
anymore -- there's so much going on! Specifically:

left column. That's just unnecessary. Maybe show me counts only for
 the one currently selected?

 - This is my big one: The color-dot indicators on the folders in the
changed view. This is the worst. They are SO unnecessary, and add SO
much noise to the interface. I look at the changed view 90% of the
time I'm in the app, and those little dots just kill me. They make a
certain amount of sense in the all files view, but are repetitive
and unnecessary in the changed view.

Perhaps the solution is a preference to turn these on or off? Or only
show them in the all files view?

Other than these new additions, I'm very happy with Versions -- keep
up the good work, but please: make it easier on our eyes!

 Thanks
