Fellow VFB Members:

May I please ask for a big favour? Unfortunately, the British Columbia coast
is dotted with numerous foreign owned (Norwegian) salmon farms which I am
absolutely convinced is detrimental to the wild salmon and especially so to
coho (Silver) salmon.

The salmon farming industry now wants their farmed salmon to be certified as
“ORGANIC” which it certainly is not.

This move is intended to fool or trick the housewife into thinking that they
are buying a safe and environmentally friendly product which clearly it is not.

The feed includes anti-biotics and the salmon are treated with synthetic
parasiticides, such as emamectin benzoate (a registered pesticide),
azamethiphos (a registered pesticide currently allowed in Atlantic Canada), and
deltamethrin (currently under review for registration) to combat infestations
of copepod parasites on farmed fish.

I myself, refuse to eat farmed salmon and certainly would not want my children
eating it.

I am asking each of you to go to
http://www.change.org/petitions/organic-farmed-salmon-must-meet-organic-standards
and to add your name to the petition. This needs to be done as soon as
possible as time is running out as the deadline is May 25th, 2011.

Thank you in advance and have a happy memorial day.
