Tony, have you considered making a streamer with a bit of golden pheasant
for the tail instead of biots. I find in fishing streamers that no tail or
a very soft tail, golden pheasant or a bit of arctic fox fur works
wonderfully. For the wing the feather is Ok, but more effective in the
water is artic fox tail (if you have some) or maraboo. The movement is
better and seems more alluring to the fish, It's a good concept..think
your pattern will work just fine. I have also found that if you want the
colors to remain more true and have an inner glow so to speak, that you can
first wind silver tinsel under the body the whole hook length, then leave a
bit -2-3 wraps, as a tag just above the barb area, then tie the floss on
for the body. There seems to be a nicer look and more alive look in the
water when I do this. Have fun. Joyce

 Hi Tony,

From being in the northeast; tying and fishing streamers, I will add a
few comments. This fly needs some peacock herl, topping, or bucktail
to fill in the open space...of course becoming Carrie Stevens Ghost
like. The first thing I always look at are the finish on the heads
 especially for plate flies.

I recommend using some UTC black fine thread. Untwist this thread so
it lays flat sort of like very mini floss. You have to untwist with a
slight bobbin spin every 5-10 wraps. This allows you to make a sweet
head with no imperfections by laying the thread to fill in
uneveness. Then use 1 coat of penetrating cement like flexament or
sally hansens. then apply 2 -3 coats of hard as hull head cement.
Give at least 4-6 hours in between coats. Or you can use rod
building epoxy once (this is less non-yellowing over time)

This type of finished head commands attention.

The marabou throat also looks out of place. I would prefer to see a
feather or barbule throat. Instead of the chart tail, use a crest
topping - it will also look regal.

Marabou is fantastic for streamers and it is fun as you can add a lot
of flash. I like to use marabou as an underwing. You can wet it
first before you tie it in and when it dries it has a little less bulk
and complements both bucktail and feather wings. A marabou throat
looks more appealing with this type of wing construction.

I just tied up some magog smelts for a client and I need to take some
pictures of what I am talking about.

Certainly like the jungle cock cheek and eye. This also looks great
on a lighter color wing. Where as silver pheasant makes a great cheek
 for dark wings

Can't wait to see your next one.

 Chappy.

Folks: here's the only whip finisher I have ever been able to use. When I
started tying, almost 7 years ago now, I ordered a starter kit from Cabelas,
and it has a whip finisher like the one in the link here.
http://www.cabelas.com/tools-vises-cabelas-stainless-steel-whip-finisher-1.shtml?WT.tsrc=CSEWT.mc_id=GoogleBaseUSAWT.z_mc_id1=741770rid=40mr:trackingCode=1F809052-F5D2-DF11-82EF-001B21631C34mr:referralID=NA

But it is just t flimsy for me, and the thread comes lose every
time. So, I took a steel clothes hanger, a coffee stirrer, and two plastic
craft
beads and made the one in the photo attached . The beads are glued in place,
but
the straw is not, to allow it to spin and I  have tied whip finishes with
this thing from size 28 all the way to about sized 2/0, and in less than five
seconds, so even though I'm kind of embarrassed to admit it, i have watched at
LEAST 100 videos from DVD's to YouTube, to websites etc, showing how to whip
finish by hand, I cannot seem to get the hang of it. My wife however, who does
NOT tie flies, watched  one of the Poul Jorgenson videos I have and he
shows how to hand tie the whip finished by hand, in slow, step by step's, and
my
wife was able to tie a whip finish knot by hand on about her second try. Me.
Like I said, I'm still trying to learn LOL.. I don't feel that I miss anything
cause like I say, i can tie one with my hand made doo dad here in 5 seconds or
less, but learning to tie the knot by hand IS on my bucket list. I need to
dig
out the Jorgenson (or Tony's as he shows a good step by step on one of his
videos as well i think) video, sit down with my wife and let her teach me.
Chuck

If anybody is interested in a home made one like mine, I have them for
$29.95 plus $9.95 SH ROFL...Or, I'll knock off 2 bucks if you provide
your own coffee stirrer LOL...
