engaged to this girl Ashley for about a year and a half now and he  she lives

Anyway, Billie and I started going over there and seeing Fred and his wife 
since I found out who it was, and  anyway, all my son’s grand parents on mine 
and my wife’s side died before he was just a few yrs old, so “Nana” (and Fred) 
have been like grand parents to him and when she died this week (from 
Parkinson’s complications” it has been devastating for him and his fiancé’ as 
well as Fred. Her funeral will be this Saturday at 2pm. Took so long as “Nana” 
has a grandson in the military stationed in Hawaii and  Friday is the soonest 
he can make it home. Hawaii is getting a whale of a hurricane and he said they 
were moving GI’s to different bases in California etc till the storm passes, 
so he’d be kinda headed this way even if his grand mother had not passed away.

 

To top it all off, Fred and Bruce’s oldest brother’s wife just died less than 
a yr ago, as did their only Sister. It’s been a rough family for the Dempsey 
family this yr so even though ya’ll don’t know them, please keep them in your 
thoughts and prayers. One last thing. Ashley is working at the local nursing 
home as a Nurse (The lady who died was also a nurse for 30 yrs, so that’s why 
Ashley wanted to become a nurse) on a 4pm till midnight shift, and they had 
called the hospice ppl in on Tuesday after Ashley had gone to work and they 
said they didn’t think she’d make it through the night and to “call in the 
family”. Well Ashley hasn’t been working there long and is still on probation, 
so her supervisor (old bitty) told her she HAD to finish out her shift. Ashley 
worked her shift, then flew home real fast. Her Nana had stopped breathing 
just 30 SECONDS before Ashley got home. Basically, she had died. Ashley went 
in to see her, and her Nana opened her eyes for about 10-20 seconds, smiled, 
then passed away for good after that. 

 

Now how do you account for that other than God allowing Ashley to say good bye 
to her beloved Grand mother, who raised her. The nursing home didn’t even want 
Ashley to miss any work on Saturday, which is the day of the fumeral, but she 
told them to “kiss her hiney”, and I told her “good for you, and if that’s how 
they treat their workers you need to go to work at the hospital which is 
ajacent to the nursing home here. She said that’s just what’s she’s going to 
check about. She has to jump through a lot of hoops as she is in a local 
college to become and LPN (and hopefully an RN), and that job is part of her 
“OJT” agreement with the school and the nursing home. Thanks a lot. I didn’t 
mean to write a book. Chuck

Hi Joyce it has be a while hasn't it!! Any way long story short arthritis is 
the problem along with too many surgeries on the left shoulder. so now I am in 
a pain management program. The med that had stop working is MSCotin, which I 
was taking 30mg 3X. It has been switched to Oxicotin 20mg 2X and Oxicoden 10mg 
2X as needed for break thru pain. I am now working as an assistant pastry chef 
at a Country Club

long tiring hours for your shoulder.  I am guessing you have oseoarthritis
in your shoulder?  If it is rheumatoid, has your rheumatologist tried
Humira o Arava? Mine is rheumatoid and I am almost pain free after a switch

[VFB] Re: vfb dead??

Jimmy;

Have been quite busy the last two months. We bought another house in the 
retirement section of Mesa, AZ. And have been going there almost every day to 
get things fixed the way we want it. I have also been working at Bass Pro Shop 
4 days a week also. Makes for long exhausting days.

My house has been on the market for 3 weeks now and a few visits but no offers 
yet.


No fishing..BAH HUMBUG!!!

I too am a founding member. Unlike many I go way back to the
Newsgroups days, what a chaotic mess that was!! VFB traffic is
reasonable. Other formats generally require one to go to a URL, when
the Streamer list went that way I went away. The Google digest is
friendly, one click and I'm able to respond. Like many originals (such
as Hans W), I tend to respond only to those threads of particular
interest. Also, with possibly 10,000 flies, swaps have mostly lost
their raison d'etre. While still a member of FF@, I haven't posted in
years. The volume of posts is too much for individual setting, and
I've never been keen on their digest. I'm also a member of Jimmy's
Flyfishingworld list, and while quiet, occasionally has a good thread.
To me VFB is healthy. While unable to run the monster caddis swap, it
seems to me that most of the announced swaps find a reasonable number
of participants. Unfortunately the world has changed for the worst;
many of us remember when flying might actually be enjoyable!!! Cross-
border mail has become both expensive and a total hassle---it would
never occur to me to send flies to the US. The last time I tried to
send flies to a US magazine they were locked in a customs warehouse in
Atlanta and the magazine was told to cough up several hundred dollars
(they declined!!).

 Flyfishingworld list, and while quiet, occasionally has a good thread.
 To me VFB is healthy. While unable to run the monster caddis swap, it
 seems to me that most of the announced swaps find a reasonable number
 of participants. Unfortunately the world has changed for the worst;
 many of us remember when flying might actually be enjoyable!!! Cross-
 border mail has become both expensive and a total hassle---it would
 never occur to me to send flies to the US. The last time I tried to
 send flies to a US magazine they were locked in a customs warehouse in
 Atlanta and the magazine was told to cough up several hundred dollars
 (they declined!!).

afterward is hit reply all and leave the VFB out of it. Signing up for a Swap 
is different, because there's always a lot of traffic and updates until the 
swap is full, then when all communication is usually moved OFF LIST as it 
should be.

  I've received several OFF LIST e-mails complaining about the Serial Posts and 
asking me to say a few words.  OK, I heard you and I did say a few words.  Some 
of you will want to give me an Atta Boy, and some will want to kick my butt, 
but Guys, but whatever you do, please do it OFF LIST.

  To quote Byard on the purpose of the VFB email list:  The Virtual Flybox 
Mailing List is designed to be a forum in which members can post announcements 
for new fly swaps and discuss flytying and flyfishing topics.  He didn't say 
anything about casual bante rand poking fun at each other. Too much technical 
stuff with no play/banter/kidding,  makes for a very dry VFB.

  One last point!  In the not distant past, the VFB had over 600 members.  As 
of last week it had only 220.  Something's Outta Kilter somewhere.

I do not share the religious beliefs of a number of the VFB members but
never take offense at their beliefs or their requests for prayers.  I
understand the comfort taken by others from their beliefs and wish them
well.

I don't live in the US and my low opinions of their political leaders would
have little to offer so I don't.

BUT I WOULD LIKE IT MADE CLEAR THAT I, IAIN SHORT, DID NOT AND NEVER HAVE
VOTED FOR TONY BLAIR, GORDON BROWN, PRESCOTT, MANDELSON, BECKET OR ANY OTHER
MEMBER OF THE BLOODY LABOR PARTY.  THE DAMAGE THEY HAVE DONE TO MY COUNTRY
IS NOT MY FAULT.


Please - Could we now get back to fly tying as a topic, and would someone
please identify their swap for which have tied streamer flies, Ive lost
track...




Ian and VFB

That was hilarious !  I just opened my front door and screamed to the
neighborhood, It's not my fault!

My own 2 cents.  Like Ian `my own views on politics and religion are
probably not shared by many on the list. I am pretty sure I am somewhat to
the left of most of the list. And because I am involved in a new and
exploding business, while I read the list every day I simply do not post at
all. Having said that, I love what Tony and Jimmie shared on this topic. I
have met a number of folks on the list. Some have been guests in my home; I
have fished with a few; tied flies with a few and most importantly have made
great friends.

 I also thought the initial comments on the war definitely pushed the limits
of VFB.  However, it is my pleasure to read about our families and I do not
mind in the least when people on this list ask for our prayers, love and
support. It's almost difficult for me to express how meaningful the support
was that I got from this list and from FF@ 10 years ago when my daughter was
killed by a drunk driver. Both on the list and off there were days when that
correspondence brought me back from some very dark places and dark thoughts.
Ironically, perhaps the most important source of that solace came from a fly
rod building Baptist minister

I think the unique genius of this list is that we have been able to balance
that fine line between flyfishing and concern for one another.

If you really want to see a train wreck jump over to FF@ for awhile. I also
love that list, but I would say that fewer than 20% of the posts are
actually about flyfishing. And the fur flies regularly.

My final comment comes from being a Jew. Thankfully, I live in a country
where being a religious minority is not something that I have to think about
very often. And I don't think I've ever have to think about that on this
list. We always told our kids that what was most important in life is to
find someone who was a good person and who they could be really happy with.
Each others religion was of little consequence. And I feel the same way
about the list. Who am I to judge where someone else finds solace.  Frankly
I am happy that those listers who asked for prayers have a faith that
sustains them and have vulnerability and courage to ask for help when they
need it.

Of course if that lister happens to Dr Demento, he does need prayer, he
needs meds and lots of them J
