Rodger, There is a book "Fish Food" whose author lives in the Tahoe area and he has a pattern for them and says that the wife's tale that they make fish sick hence they are not taken is false. He catches lots of fish on them. I can't say I've ever seen fish eat them but, any pond I've ever seen with fish in it doesn't seem to have any boatmen in it and boatmen can be found in my area in bodies of water that don't have fish. There sure are a lot of western trout patterns for boatmen though. I saw Jaws. He ate a boatman- a few of them in fact. Chewed them right up and down the hatch. I'll strap a Ken doll to a 14/0 hook and call it a boatman special. I'll have a little yellow drum for a strike indicator on the end of a leader.
