Re: [VFB] Boatmen

2011-08-22 Thread Michael Bliss
Rodger,

There is a book "Fish Food" whose author lives in the Tahoe area and he has
a pattern for them and says that the wife's tale that they make fish sick
hence they are not taken is false. He catches lots of fish on them.

Re: [VFB] Boatmen

2011-08-22 Thread Wayne Blake-Hedges
I can't say I've ever seen fish eat them but, any pond I've ever seen with fish
in it doesn't seem to have any boatmen in it and boatmen can be found in my
area in bodies of water that don't have fish.

There sure are a lot of western trout patterns for boatmen though.

Has anyone see a fish eat a boatman?
I've heard they are fish food..yet some people claim fish won't eat them.
I've never noticed a fish eating one, but maybe I haven't watched closely
enough.
There is a boatman tutorial recently posted on the Fly Tying Forum.

Re: [VFB] Boatmen

2011-08-22 Thread Don Ordes
I saw Jaws. He ate a boatman- a few of them in fact. Chewed them right up and
down the hatch.

I'll strap a Ken doll to a 14/0 hook and call it a boatman special. I'll have
a little yellow drum for a strike indicator on the end of a leader. LOL
