Sometimes these companies will send you a sample. For you gas tank
problem
a sample would probably be plenty. Good luck.

Gary: Thanks. They have a lot of products don't they?? Even if they don't
have the thing I need to fix my boat, they have other things. For example, I
just have a little bench top 9inch Craftsman bandsaw, and the table broke,
right where it mounts. And YES, sears parts site DOES have a replacement..
For $50.99 LOL. Now, I'm a certified welder, but the table is made of pot
metal, and I don't know of any way to weld that junk.. So,an epoxy may save
me a bunch of money. Thanks again, Chuck

Re: [VFB] Gamefisher Outboard gas tank needed/ORRRRRRRRR

2010-03-27 Thread Chuck Alexander
Or. Can I just go and buy a 3 or 6 gallon boat gas tank (the red
ones with the pump up bulb in the line), hook this to the 'male nipple end
where the fuel line from the built in gas tank used to hook up and run that???
It's been s long since I used a gas boat motor I have forgotten how these
things work. Since the gas tank will sit in the bottom of the boat, do you just
pump the bulb until the gas tank is pressurized, and then when the pressure
dies down, pump it up some more??? I think that's how these type tanks work
I know that may sound like a stupid question, but like I said, it's been 25
years since I even had a gas motor except for one little 2hp Yamaha motor that
was on my boat when I got it, but it had the on board tank and the motor sucked
so I sold it. Thanks a lot and don't laff too hard LOL, Chuck

Folks: I found a Gamefisher 5hp outboard last year in a local buy/sell
paper. Well, the guy wanted $125 for it, which wasn't bad. I got over there,
and due to a bad design, one of the bolt heads that holds the cooling cowling
on, had rubbed a tiny hole in the (plastic) gas tank. Well, it ran great, but
had this problem. So, the guy knocked it down to $75. I almost snatched his arm
off LOL..cause that's dirt cheap around here. Well, my master plan was to fix
the little 1/8 hole by taking a big pop rivet, putting an petroleum resistant
rubber washer on the pop rivet, then rivet it in. Worked great. BUT, I forgot
about the tiny gap between the rivet's body and the pin, so it still leaks a
little. Well, it just so happens that the leak is very close to the head and I
don't want to set the thing on fire. SO, does anybody know of anybody that
deals in these type boat parts??? If so, I can provide you with all the make,
model serial number etc ect. It's (I think) an early to mid 1980's motor. And
this particular type plastic, I have tried every type glue, or epoxy there is,
buyt nothing will stick to this stuff. I was just gonna take the rivet out, get
a large screw with course threads and tap it into the hole, but I'm afraid it
will vibrate lose and fall out sooner or later (sooner in my case with my luck
LOL). Anyway, I have searched ebay, Craig's list, the internet and can't seem
to find a gas tank. I know they made a LOT of these motors, and probably a
Sears, Ted Williams, or a game Fisher either one should work cause they're all
the same I think. Thanks a lot.. I'll even pay you a bird dog fee. I was just
watching You Tube videos and these little motors really haul butt to be as
small as they are and I'd like to do some fishing in the river this year.
Thanks, Chuck

Go to your autobody supply store and get a tube of Fusion, it is a
methylmethacrylate that is used to weld cars. It is a bit pricey, but it
will lay down a bead of superglue that will absolutely seal around your
hole. We used it to totally fix the rusted area around the 1982 Datsun
windshield, welded in little preformed metal pieces and it holds wonderfully
and doesn't leak. You can get either the fast or slow kind. The fast sets
up absolutely in five minutes, the slower in around 15. Be sure to wear
gloves because you don't want to get it on your fingers. If you accidently
do get some on your fingers, it will come off it you wipe it immediately
with alcohol ..supposedly. We had to let ours wear off. We also welded cab
corners and truck bed corners with this stuff. In our autobody class we
learned that it is actually stronger than a true weld on metal and plastic.
It comes in about 10 cc size or larger, has a self mixing spout and works
absolutely wonderfully. Hope this helps. Joyce

Go to your autobody supply store and get a tube of Fusion, it is a
 *methylmethacrylate
that is used to weld cars. It is a bit pricey, but it will lay down a bead
of superglue that will absolutely seal around your hole. We used it to
totally fix the rusted area around the 1982 Datsun windshield, welded in
little preformed metal pieces and it holds wonderfully and doesn't leak. You
can get either the fast or slow kind. The fast sets up absolutely in five
minutes, the slower in around 15. Be sure to wear gloves because you don't
want to get it on your fingers. If you accidently do get some on your
fingers, it will come off it you wipe it immediately with alcohol
..supposedly. We had to let ours wear off. We also welded cab corners and
truck bed corners with this stuff. In our autobody class we learned that it
is actually stronger than a true weld on metal and plastic. It comes in
about 10 cc size or larger, has a self mixing spout and works absolutely
 wonderfully. Hope this helps. Joyce*

cowling on, had rubbed a tiny hole in the (plastic) gas tank. Well, it ran
great, but had this problem. So, the guy knocked it down to $75. I almost
snatched his arm off LOL..cause that's dirt cheap around here. Well, my
master plan was to fix the little 1/8 hole by taking a big pop rivet,
putting an petroleum resistant rubber washer on the pop rivet, then rivet
it in. Worked great. BUT, I forgot about the tiny gap between the rivet's
body and the pin, so it still leaks a little. Well, it just so happens that
the leak is very close to the head and I don't want to set the thing on
fire. SO, does anybody know of anybody that deals in these type boat
parts??? If so, I can provide you with all the make, model serial number etc
ect. It's (I think) an early to mid 1980's motor. And this particular type
plastic, I have tried every type glue, or epoxy there is, buyt nothing will
stick to this stuff. I was just gonna take the rivet out, get a large screw
with course threads and tap it into the hole, but I'm afraid it will
vibrate lose and fall out sooner or later (sooner in my case with my luck
LOL). Anyway, I have searched ebay, Craig's list, the internet and can't
seem to find a gas tank. I know they made a LOT of these motors, and
probably a Sears, Ted Williams, or a game Fisher either one should work
cause they're all the same I think. Thanks a lot.. I'll even pay you a bird
dog fee. I was just watching You Tube videos and these little motors really
haul butt to be as small as they are and I'd like to do some fishing in the
 river this year. Thanks, Chuck

it out here..it has a different name but you can see what this is. There is
also a polyethylene welding rod which you can melt and repair polyethlylene.
I found that by doing a google search for polyethylene bumper repair. Hope
this helps. They weld polyethylene bumpers in car class using the welding
rod all the time. Joyce

2010-03-27 Thread Chuck Alexander
I'll look for it. Many times I go on the web sites of the parts houses and then
I actually go to the store and see things they were not listed on their site.
Thanks, Chuck
