but to edit them I have to convert them to .WMV (I guess windows Media

Thanks for that Heath, if you install ffmpeg, it is also then available
from within Vegas to access lots of other codecs and settings, not all
work though. I too will let you know what else I come up with as Im
always trying new stuff and searching for the best workflow.
