I admit to being unable to get YouTube videos to play within vPIP so that vPIP 
would somehow control the download. 

As for my using YouTube, these are other people's videos and although I could 
download them onto my own server, I don't want to scrape them and remove them 
from their context, stats, etc. I am still using vPIP all the time.

One virtue of vPIP is that it minimizes the latency in starting a video 
download.  In most cases, it is almost instant.  I do not use a buffer and keep 
the bitrate low enough not to need one for moderate bandwidth.
