Not a very good example of it's capability. That was one of the first
shots with it. But it was all pretty heavy zoom. We were about 50+
yards away most of the time.

I use 2 pieces of equipment for getting steady cam like footage.
I use a bogen/manfrotto monopod with a manfrotto 3265 (pistol Grip
head). This allows me to balance the unit, not unlike the tripod set
up in this video. As a bonus, I can also articulate the pistol grip
head to alter balance.
Hey, Ron,
Don't suppose you can hook us up with some images of the rig you describe?
That would be sweet.
Loving this thread.
Here's a video of monopod use from VlogEurope '07:

Good stuff.
Hey Ron thanks for both videos. I watch the one where the Frisbee one
with the dogs and the other with your Spiral rig.
I got an excellent idea of how you can use a Monopod. I thought it had
to be absolutely straight but the model you have has a joint that

Gena,
It's a manfrotto 3265 grip head that is the joint. It's just a
different kind of tripod head. Here's a link: http://

Like a boom pole, they come in sections and can be folded down to a fairly
small size.
Perhaps a documentary-length boom pole could double as a monopod with a
thread adapter...

I have a Bogen monopod (and two Bogen tripods) .. but for video use I find
that the Bogen Tilt Head is a valuable addition. You

varizoom has some other great stuff, too.
add a LANC controller to your stealthpod and you are one dangerous
new media force!
I just got home and took a look at the video. The price is right and
my purse is my euphemistic way of saying that hunk of luggage that I
carry on a daily basis.
If I have to find a messenger bag or similar bag that can handle 23
inches so be it. I have a Samy's Camera near me so keep you fingers
I went to http://www.quikpod.com it seems to be a great gadget if I
want to take a photo of myself but I need to stabilize as I'm shooting
in variable situations.
When I was shooting at UCLA the stadium vibrates with people. Or
folks would stand up un-expectantly.

I saw the video for that a few days ago. I didn't know I'd need
something like that until this past weekend. If I don't find what I
need at the photo store I'll mosey over to the hardware store and give
it a go.
I also saw a video of a guy on You Tube that shows you how to find the

Thanks Richard - I'm diving into the Bogen site right now. I'm also
