The best thing to do is to go to :http://www.videohelp.com
and search on what you want to convert. Use the search function and
look up VCD to .avi.
It will give you a list of free or shared software that you can use to
convert it, plus give you some tutorials.

Thanks - I foudn exactly what I needed and have already converted,
edited and am about to upload the video for my client. (The software I
found was Virtual Dub - http://www.virtualdub.org/.)
