That's pretty freaky that 75% of your class could, but 25% couldn't!
One more thought on the differences between our two Macs - I don't have
iMovie 06 on mine ... I wonder if that makes some crazy difference?

p.s. and 3 students had imovie 06 working with the flip video clips in
less than 5 mintues
they were editing before i even explained anything
that was the beauty of the DV conversion in that version, just throw
clips in, it knows what to do.

yeah i tried file > import movies (i swear this did not work 2 months ago)
and it worked
didn't bring the files in straight like from iphoto (which is what it
should f...@#$% do)
it converts the file to Apple Intermediate Codec and puts a copy in
the project fold
When I bought my Flip, I also downloaded a dodad called Perian that lives in
your System Preferences:

or Zi6. Couldn't locate the Creative Vado for local evaluation & purchase.

It's not an HDFlip - it's the Flip Ultra that shoots SD video. Still willing
to send a clip if the model of my Flip doesn't change anything... gotta love
codecs!

i have the little Mino and imovie 09 just does not see any of those clips
(sees Xacti clips aplenty)
and i know i've installed the codec.
do you have a small clip you can send me? i'd love to see if my imovie will

I haven't tested in FCP (I have FCE, but not FCP and haven't tested it in
FCE either), so not sure there. But with iMovie, no extra transcoding steps
- just what I've listed. I don't have to use mpgstreamclip or anything...

It's working for me! I think with the added codec, it works fine. At least,
I was just able to take a flip video, dump it into iphoto, then open imovie
09 (yes, the new one), in event library click the iPhoto videos, and drag
the video into a new project.

One other thing. For the manual control freak, there are a tons of manual
settings on this camera. You can use it in full automatic mode or make
everything manual. I havent seen a small camera like this that has manual focus
before. I was very happy to find that out :)

I added a little contrast to the images as the sun was really blowing out
everything. Not much more than that though.

Friend has a Flip Ultra HD, and it does a LOT better in low light than my
Cannon HF-100.
As for sound it seems ok, but he mainly puts it in situations where the volume
is a bit too much:

LOL. Bill - you know that's exactly what I've been tossing and turning about! I
know I need/want the 30fps mobile video of the iPhone 3GS but I love the idea
of HD from watching all that pretty footage on Vimeo. I'd like to do both but
the misses would have my head! :-)
