Here's a timely blog post from the Church of the Customer about the "one
percent rule" - in a given group of users, only one percent of
participants actively create content. Another 10 percent may contribute
occasionally, while the rest of lurkers. They look at the user data for
Wikipedia and other content-generating sites to demonstrate the rule.

So in my mind at least, it doesn't matter whether you use yahoogroups,
bulletin boards, wikis, etc - there will always be an extreme minority
of active participants and a large majority of lurkers. It's not that
we're doing anything wrong here - it's just a normal online dynamic.
